2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Dezzilu (226) - Whitmore Lake, Michigan, USA - JUN 12, 2008
A nice auburn color but unfortunately zilch for head. I don’t know why, but I always feel that a beer that pours with no head is cheap. So I guess this isn’t a good start for this beer. The flavor was soft and mellow, but extremely ho-hum. The finish was much of the same. This is a cheap 6-six in the stores in Michigan these days, so I would probably drink this again, but the only adjectives I would use to describe this beer are ’adequete’ or ’mildly-acceptable’.

[On tap somewhere in Chicago O’Hare] Leinenkugel’s Red is a reddish amber beer with a small off-white head. The aroma is soft and mellow with good malt presence. It is pretty light bodied and a little watery. The flavor is full of adjuncts. Lots of corn here. It really took a lot to finish the glass. I just tried it because I never heard of it. There is no need to try this again.

After having the Sunset Wheat I thought I would give the Red a try. Man did I mess up. Boring beer that is as common as Corona.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 GJF (973) - Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA - JUN 3, 2008
Fairly standard lager. Pours a deep red, offwhite head. Good malt but a bit of cardboard to it; a bit fizzy. Pretty reasonable drink for the ballpark.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JackTHorn (4) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - MAY 31, 2008 does not count
I like reds in general, and this is a good solid red beer. Nice auburn color, nice creamy head, with a taste that isn’t extreme and doesn’t seem to be striving for uniqueness or shock -- just a nice good malty red beer flavor. Not a beer I long for or run out specifically to get, but if it’s around I’ll gladly have one, and if the beer I was longing for isn’t available then I’ll gladly have one of these.

Reddish amber with a big creamy off-white head. Light aroma of mostly caramel. Smooth and creamy body with light taste of caramel and toasted malts. One of the better Leinie beers, use to be my favorite many years ago, kind of happy my mom bought it for us when we came over on Mothers day.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 phishpond417 (2089) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 11, 2008
Pours a vibrant, clear red colour which is very attractive. Little to no head. No lacing, and like previously mentioned, while it is a nice beer, the colours to Leine’s brews are always decieving. Aroma is nutty, Taste is nutty also, a hint of cherries and strawberries in the taste.
4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 drawz (10) - Keene, Texas, USA - MAY 10, 2008
One of the most underrated and forgotten beers from an excellent but under-appreciated brewery. Leine-Red is one of my two or three favorite beers. Orange-brown in complexion with medium head. Has a full range of hops and sweet hints, but none of the taste overpower each other. Excellent finish and great appearance. As is the case with all Leine beers, well bottled with quality. In my opinion, one of America’s best beers.
