2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle to pint (from notes). Looks fine; a transparent copper with ample head and carbonation. Smells and tastes mildly sweet and malty, and a little bitter. Average on the palate. Okay for what it is.

First off, you gotta love styles like this, where people hate on them so much that there’s a big disparity of overall vs. style ratings. In contrast to DIPAs and Imperial Stouts, Dark Lagers have set the bar very low and even a bad beer overall can get high style marks.
On that positive note, I enjoy Leinie’s Red. It’s a little overweight (big bodied), sloppy (mud-red and frothy) and unambitious (generic Duffs ’beer’ taste), but I still like it. It’s malty, smooth, and also very filling.

Pours with a nice red color and good, if fleeting, head. Nice initial mouth feel that turns a tad alcoholie towards the end. Not a bad product.

2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz bottle. Amber color with real thin white head. No retention. Very straight forward nose and taste. Grain, light malt and a light generic hop crispness. Better then Bud, Miller or Coors but nothing to seek out.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Thin, lager-like mouthfeel. Pretty light in taste and easy to drink. Mouthfeel was especially thin, though.
