machfive55 (43), Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 18, 2008 Poured from a bottle it was a nice amber with some red tones. I drank it in a mug, there was a nice head that disipated quickly. A nice carbonation that is about appropriate for the style.
The aroma was nothing too exciting. Not exactly pleasing in any way, but not a turn off either. Just a little malty sweet aroma. It does not say, "drink me now" but says, "I am beer".
Mouthfeel was nothing exciting. A good carbonation and the beer was not watery and had some thickness to it. Easy drinkin’.
The flavor started of complex, fruity and estery and my first thoughts were that it was a little over the top for a lager. But as I got further into the beer, the estery complex flavors mellowed out and the beer smoothed out as the hop bitterness took over. The beer is not overhopped but hopped at a level that is right for the style which allows the hops to come through subtly in the flavor and a mild bitterness.
There is nothing crazy about this beer, but it is a solid, and fairly clean example of an American Lager. I enjoyed the beer and I could find this one becoming a staple as a solid session lager for me and replacing *gasp* our local Yuengling favorite. I enjoyed this beer and if you just want a solid beer with nothing too exciting but a good flavor without being boring, this is a nice beer for you.
37steel (186), St. Charles, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 Light amber with a thin white head. Low malt and caramel in the aroma. A slight hop bitterness at the end. Very subdued but not bad. BrotherGrendel (135), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 18, 2008 On draft in Milwaukee. Appearance is a clear amber hue, minimal head and lacing. Smell is very subdued, some clean bread malts w/hints of caramel and grassy hops. Taste is bread and caramel malts, lager yeast, light grassy hops, finishes with light bitterness. Light-bodied, watery texture, high carbonation. Substandard lager with too much carbonation, easy-to-drink but lacking in any creative or bold flavors. RONCOD (66), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 14, 2008 Nice copper color with a thin white head. Nice malty sweet flavor. I think I could drink this all day. Baumgartner (66), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Aug 3, 2008 Draft at the Leine’s Lodge In Chippewa Falls, WI. 7oz. Glass. Redish hue and off white head. Smelt of sweet malts and cascade hops. Tastes much the same. bluemooner (75), Rogers, Minnesota, USA Jul 31, 2008 Pours a deep amber hue with a nice foamy head. Malty aroma. Quite drinkable with light hops making it a little bitter but still a rather smooth lager. A very good red beer.
