Bottle: Poured a blackish with reddish edges, the head was a cream off white. The aroma is light but a bit vanilla. Taste is a chocolate, vanilla, gritty mess.

Not bad. The vanilla is dominant in the flavor but the aroma is pretty terrible. Skunky and only a bit sweet smelling. Watery and pretty drinkable.

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A tasty twist on a traditional porter, but while this was a pleasant example, it wanted for a bit more vanilla to make it a standout. Vanilla and chocolate are evident and the finish is rich, just could have been better

Beautiful dark red in color, goes down smooth, you can smell the vanilla and caramel and you can taste the vanilla and caramel with an after taste of chocolate and a hint of coffee

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Thanks to Jakebra for bringing this out for me. 12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a white head. Aromas and flavors of cocoa, vanilla, light roast. Thin, watery. Nothing offensive, but pretty boring. Not that I expected anything else.

2.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz twist-off bottle. Black color, thin tan head. Not much aromas. Basic Porter nose. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, distant coffee/burnt grain character. Light and simple Porter with good flavors. A bit stronger than expected, makes for a nice and inexpensive winter ale.(3545)

Standard Leinieís offering: Looks OK, smells good, misleading body weight and poor taste.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A nice reddish brown body with a tan head that faded away to fast. A nice aroma of vanilla, coffee, and some bittersweet chocolate. Flavor had a sweet note to it. It was not anywhere close to being cloying but sweet chocolate malts and vanilla dominated the flavor. Could have used some more roasted malts i guess. Finish was smooth and slightly creamy. A decent porter that fell short in areas.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a solid dark brown with ruby highlights and a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates to a cap. Smells of caramel and brown sugar with a bit of chocolate and vanilla. Thereís a light bit of roast in the aroma with little to no hop presence. The flavor is sweet with a vanilla and caramel playing the lead roles. A little brown sugar and roast come in to support but the vanilla really overpowers everything else in the flavor. Little to no hop flavor or bitterness is detected. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet creamy mouthfeel. I bought some Big Eddy Imperial stout a few years back and I was blown away. Since that time I keep trying their regular beers hoping to revisit the magic, but it just doesnít seem to happen. Thereís nothing really wrong with this beer, but for my tastes its too much vanilla and not enough porter.
