This one was a surprise. Leinenkuegel can surprise you sometimes. Although not as rich as many porters, this one is easy to drink and tastes great. If you like vanilla, it’s a winner. It’s very smooth and sweet.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2015 Smooth, delicious brew. Pours black with a smallish head. The vanilla flavor counters any bitterness, and it has a nice finish with hints of caramel and chocolate. Flavor improves as beer warms.

A really good creamy vanilla porter that has the right ratio of vanilla and char. It has a great mouth feel that isn’t too syrupy.

Draft pour dark brown. Nose of sweet malt and faint vanilla. Taste of mild roast, but missing most of the vanilla. It seems more apparent in the aftertaste. Very thin body for a porter.

Poured one into a pint glass for a proper review. Pours a ruby-tinted cola color. Thin off-white head on top. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate, dry grains. Pretty basic scent, but I didn’t expect much. Nothing off-putting.
Moderate mouthfeel, with some carbonation bite. A little on the thin side, but in no way is this watery or slick. Again, pretty average feel. Good balance of vanilla sweetness, semi-sweet chocolate, and yeasty bread. Mild bitterness. This is an easy one to quaff. I was afraid this would be overpowering in its sweetness, but this was well balanced. A simple beer that was well-made. I’d have it again.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap - Pours deep brown with a thin ring of tan head. Nose is vanilla, chocolate, and light roast. A tad sugary. Taste is roughly the same. Smooth and sweet, with chocolatey vanilla dominating. Not much complexity, but pretty straightforward and tasty. Thin body. Not a bad offering from Leinie’s, but not one I need to try again.

Dark brown pour. Coffee and burnt malt smell. Charcoal taste. Very rugged roast character. Ok

Pours a dark brown body with a frothy white head. Mild chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and general roastiness. At $5.99/12 on closeout, this is the best value purchase I’ve made in a long time.

Bottle, pours a clear dark brown minimal off white head, aroma is soft mild malts very little vanilla. Good carbonation, very drinkable little to no hop character vanilla character is there but there is also some light sourness, would love to see an imperial version or a barrel aged funk. Overall it is sort of average porter while very clean and drinkable yet its lacking malt depth.
