12oz twist-off bottle. Black color, thin tan head. Not much aromas. Basic Porter nose. Tastes of chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, distant coffee/burnt grain character. Light and simple Porter with good flavors. A bit stronger than expected, makes for a nice and inexpensive winter ale.(3545)

Standard Leinie’s offering: Looks OK, smells good, misleading body weight and poor taste.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A nice reddish brown body with a tan head that faded away to fast. A nice aroma of vanilla, coffee, and some bittersweet chocolate. Flavor had a sweet note to it. It was not anywhere close to being cloying but sweet chocolate malts and vanilla dominated the flavor. Could have used some more roasted malts i guess. Finish was smooth and slightly creamy. A decent porter that fell short in areas.

Pours a solid dark brown with ruby highlights and a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates to a cap. Smells of caramel and brown sugar with a bit of chocolate and vanilla. There’s a light bit of roast in the aroma with little to no hop presence. The flavor is sweet with a vanilla and caramel playing the lead roles. A little brown sugar and roast come in to support but the vanilla really overpowers everything else in the flavor. Little to no hop flavor or bitterness is detected. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet creamy mouthfeel. I bought some Big Eddy Imperial stout a few years back and I was blown away. Since that time I keep trying their regular beers hoping to revisit the magic, but it just doesn’t seem to happen. There’s nothing really wrong with this beer, but for my tastes its too much vanilla and not enough porter.

Draft - pours dark amber with thin tan head and thin lacing. Nose is roasty. Flavor adds nuttiness, chocolate and vanilla. Mod sweet and weaker bitterness. Creamy body. Faint smoky aftertaste. Meh.

Funny, I love vanilla, and I love a good, malty porter. They are birds of a feather, sweet, dark, aromatic, but somehow they never work together for me. No different in this one, I keep thinking, "what would it taste like without the vanilla?

Overall... OK. The flavor profile is a little lack. Kind of a pill taste at the back of the throat. Again its OK but there are better vanilla porters out there.

bottle. brown with small head. vanilla is more subtle than I expected. somewhat thin flavor profile overall. some smokiness and faint chocolate. not bad, but inferior to other vanilla porters I’ve had from Atwater or Breckenridge.

Bottle. Deep rich brown color with a faint creamy head. Light malty aroma. Smooth roasted malt taste with a hint of vanilla and some coffee. Slightly sweet with a pleasant full feel in the mouth. I like my porters a bit more robust, but this is a nice variation on the standard porter style.
