3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Iím a hit or miss fan of the Lienenkugel brand, but I have to say this one caught me a bit off guard.
Aroma - pretty good aroma. Notes of vanilla and coffee blended with some real porter roastiness.
Appearance - Dark translucent brown with a quickly dissipating white head. Thin lace around the edge.
Taste - The taste is pretty stinkin good. The vanilla is layer in nicely with the coffee and roasted flavors. Sweet but not too sweet. Has a touch of acidity on the end but just enough to be appropriate for the style. Itís by no means a rich porter but still a very nice representation of the style.
Palate - Somewhere between medium and thin. Itís honestly thicker than I thought it would be. Sits heavy enough on your tongue to not feel too watery. Satisfactory for a porter and nothing more.
Overall - Iím paying a little over $7 a sixer where I live for this and honestly for your dollar you couldnít do much better. Itís a very middle of the road porter. Iíd recommend this to anyone who is buying on a budget.

Bottle. Deep cola pour with a small beige head. Artificial vanilla aroma. A hint of roast and chocolate. Pretty thin on the palate. Just okay, but drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle- Pours dark red to black with a small light tan head that reduces to a collar. Aroma is roasted malts, maybe some vanilla, subdued. The taste is much better, in your face vanilla, creamy, smooth, very smooth, there is a very roasted quality to the malt, it is a porter after all. Body is medium to almost light, carbonation is medium high. Overall I was hoping it would be good, and it is, but a little basic.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours dark clear brown with a tight khaki head that settles to a wispy film and soapy collar. Aroma is big sweet vanilla and roasted malt, but the vanilla is very strong and artificial. Taste is pretty much the same as the scent, but with even more vanilla sweetness and syrup. The malt is present and there is some nuttiness as well. Palate medium slick and sticky dry. I really donít mind this, but the vanilla is a bit over the top.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown, dark, and delicious. Leinenkugelís does the dark stuff the best. Itís complex, lots of flavor crystals. The vanilla comes through, but not overwhelming - it layers well on top of the traditional porter. Full-bodied, kind of heavy, but I think itís awesome.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Complex aroma, but one that was ultimately a little disappointing -- dark, toasty/roasty/coffee malt, a little dogginess and earth, tar, very light nutty sweet. Almost opaque, twistoff longneck, cluttered label. Acidic coffee, vanilla bitterness, dry. Earthy on the lips. Medium-light body. Mild vanilla tones in the finish. Not cloying. Reasonably smooth, lacks a certain richness. Publix, I-10 @ Thomasville Rd.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle poured brown-red hue w/ small tan fully diminishing head. Medium aroma of vanilla coffee w/ some caramel. Taste is light sweet w/ a strong vanilla extract flavor. Light bodied, lively carbonation and watery texture. Amped up vanilla to hide an inferior porter.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a very dark brown with a ruby hue. Aroma is mostly coffee with a little vanilla, chocolate and some caramel. Taste is light sweet. Vanilla is dominate with some coffee and chocolate to follow. Light bodied with a smooth texture. Lively carbonation and a surprisingly long finish. Overall, very good. Other than the Big Eddy series, this is by far the best beer made by Leinie.
