COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Leinenkugelís Snowdrift Vanilla Porter is a robust and velvety addition to Leinenkugelís seasonal selection. This porter-style beer is aged on real vanilla to reveal rich layers of caramel, coffee and chocolate that is ideal for the season.

Pours a mahogany color with a thin, short-lasting foam head. Aroma is subtle vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and some biscuit. Flavor is lightly sweet vanilla and caramel, with some chocolate. Has a medium, softly carbonated mouthfeel. This is okay, but not near as flavorful as other vanilla porters Iíve had.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2014 To its credit, Snowdrift exceeded by expectations. The roasted malt character is okay, and the color is appealing. Still, it ends up falling short. Carbonation is bothersome, vanilla flavor is underplayed, and the malts offer more bitterness than chocolate sweetness. I probably wouldnít have this again, but I didnít have an altogether negative experience with this porter.

12oz pour - Not altogether bad. Some nice maltiness with, yes, a decent amount of vanilla on the back end. Little cola like, but this exceeded my expectations.

Pours brown with ruby highlights and a creamy head. Vanilla is very present, tastes artificial and overpowering. Thin for a porter. Not good.

Brown, dark, and delicious. Leinenkugelís does the dark stuff the best. Itís complex, lots of flavor crystals. The vanilla comes through, but not overwhelming - it layers well on top of the traditional porter. Full-bodied, kind of heavy, but I think itís awesome.

Poured one into a pint glass for a proper review. Pours a ruby-tinted cola color. Thin off-white head on top. Aromas of vanilla, chocolate, dry grains. Pretty basic scent, but I didnít expect much. Nothing off-putting. Moderate mouthfeel, with some carbonation bite. A little on the thin side, but in no way is this watery or slick. Again, pretty average feel. Good balance of vanilla sweetness, semi-sweet chocolate, and yeasty bread. Mild bitterness. This is an easy one to quaff. I was afraid this would be overpowering in its sweetness, but this was well balanced. A simple beer that was well-made. Iíd have it again.

Bottled. Pours dark brown with amber hues. Good sized head. Big vanilla and milk chocolate aroma. Keyword: sweet. Flavor profile matches the nose plus a light roast. Medium body, creamy texture, and a vanilla-malty sweet finish. Honestly, this is just as I expected and Iím quite pleased. Lightly roasted, heavy vanilla-d porter-brown ale.

Pours dark brown with quick diminshing brown head. Sweet caramel malt and vanilla on the nose. Mellow chocolate malt, roasted malt and vanilla. Pretty much what youíd expect. Soft mouthfeel and smooth drinking. Fairly creamy texture. Better than I expected because the vanilla, while fairly prominent is not as overpowering than other vanilla porters Iíve had. Porters donít excite me and this in not exception but itís definitely decent and one Iíd drink occassionally in the winter months.

Dark brown pour with small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, cocoa and vanilla. Tastes of roasted malts, slight coffee, faint chocolate and vanilla. Medium bodied with perfect carbonation, very good porter.
