Bottle. Pours, looks and smells like a porter. There’s a definite vanilla essence in the aroma, and an evenly tilted vanilla swirl in the flavor, too. Not bad. (#5339, 11/23/2013)

Dark brown-red with a white head. The aroma is fairly faint but I get a hint of vanilla and some chocolate. The flavor has some artificial vanilla notes as well as some toasted malt, nuts and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Tallahassee, Fl - Publix Supermarket - 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a soft off-white head. Aroma has some chocolate accents, a hint of vanilla, pleasant. Flavor is decidedly sweet with some cocoa nibs, a touch of vanilla, some top soil in the back end and a hint of International Flavors instant coffee. Slick, even mouthfeel. Not a bad holiday treat.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a clear dark brown amber colored brew with a fast dissipating beige head that leaves behind a thin white ring and a film top, with minimal lacing. Aroma of vanilla, a hint of roasted chocolate malt, light coffee and white chocolate. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of roasted chocolate malt, plenty of vanilla bean, a hint of cinnamon and light coffee. Finish is semi-sweet, some smooth character with a slowly disappearing vanilla and light caramel aftertaste. The vanilla presence is touch overwhelming making more of an after dinner specialty porter than a meal beverage.

Bottle to pint. Looks decent; a semi-transparent reddish-brown with fluffy light beige head that slowly dissipates into lacing. Smells of malt and vanilla. Tastes like it smells, but better. Solid on the palate too. This one exceeded my expectations.

Bottle. Nearly black colored body with a very thin light tan head. A leathery nose of cherries and vanilla. There is also coffee to complement with some roast. A thin and highly carbonated body has a slick smooth feeling in the mouth. This tastes of vanilla noted medium roast coffee. There is also some bit of milk chocolate. Actually, this is nicely done with some subtle vanilla. Better than expected.

Black, no head. Faint aroma of vanilla and chocolate. Taste is vanilla and chocolate, plus some odd tart notes that seem kind of out of place. I’ve had worse, I’ve had better...

Tap. Pours a clear brown body with a minimal fizzy beige head that faded to a thin film. The nose is pretty minimal, especially with how cold it was served, but there is a little light roast, coffee, and vanilla bean. The flavor is pretty well dominated by the vanilla beans, so much so that it tastes pretty artificial. There’s some roast, chocolate, and a big of a black strap molasses like sweetness on the finish. Not bad, but a little too one dimensional to be really good.

Brown pour with hints of red and off white head. Aroma is light roasted malt and vanilla. Flavor is sweet malt and alot of vanilla. Pretty dominated by a fake vanilla flavor. A tad of a sour finish. Medium body with ok carbonation. A roast malt bitter and a sweet vanilla finish. A beer I could but wouldn’t drink 6 of.

After doing the MountainZilla trail run the radio crew stopped in at Chubby’s in Alton and I was pleasantly surprised to find this. I got the last half pint as the keg ran dry. This beer poured quite dark and had a creamy layer. The aroma was vanilla and was pronounced. That was also tasted and later cocoa. This tended to be a sweet beer and the feel was somewhat creamy.
