Brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and slight vanilla. Taste is blah. A little metallic at the aftertaste. Vanilla was weak.

Complex aroma, but one that was ultimately a little disappointing -- dark, toasty/roasty/coffee malt, a little dogginess and earth, tar, very light nutty sweet. Almost opaque, twistoff longneck, cluttered label. Acidic coffee, vanilla bitterness, dry. Earthy on the lips. Medium-light body. Mild vanilla tones in the finish. Not cloying. Reasonably smooth, lacks a certain richness. Publix, I-10 @ Thomasville Rd.

Aroma of moderate roast with some chocolate and caramel; the vanilla presence seems rather subdued. Appearance is black with light mocha head. Flavor up front is lightly roasty; the vanilla peeks in briefly thereafter, the finish is sweet, thin caramel. Palate is creamy, but at once thin bodied. Nothing offensive really, but also not a standout beer. By no means a bad beer.

Simple flavor. Not very complex and not a very true porter. Its drinkable and offers decent flavor.

Poured from 12oz bottle, pours a clear dark brown with a thin tan head and spotty lacing in the glass, the aroma is sweet but nothing really stands out from it, the flavor has a sweet front end with I suppose is vanilla with a little bit of chocolate and roast in the finish, thin mouthfeel, not bad for what I consider a macro brew but nothing I would buy on a regular basis.

Bottle. Pours dark. Not a bad porter but I think the vanilla is a bit overpowering. I like it, but only 6 or so ounces.

bottle. brown with small head. vanilla is more subtle than I expected. somewhat thin flavor profile overall. some smokiness and faint chocolate. not bad, but inferior to other vanilla porters I’ve had from Atwater or Breckenridge.

Funny, I love vanilla, and I love a good, malty porter. They are birds of a feather, sweet, dark, aromatic, but somehow they never work together for me. No different in this one, I keep thinking, "what would it taste like without the vanilla?

Pours a solid dark brown with ruby highlights and a smallish tan head that quickly dissipates to a cap. Smells of caramel and brown sugar with a bit of chocolate and vanilla. There’s a light bit of roast in the aroma with little to no hop presence. The flavor is sweet with a vanilla and caramel playing the lead roles. A little brown sugar and roast come in to support but the vanilla really overpowers everything else in the flavor. Little to no hop flavor or bitterness is detected. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet creamy mouthfeel. I bought some Big Eddy Imperial stout a few years back and I was blown away. Since that time I keep trying their regular beers hoping to revisit the magic, but it just doesn’t seem to happen. There’s nothing really wrong with this beer, but for my tastes its too much vanilla and not enough porter.

I think there’s a little vanilla in a lot of porters, but the focus on it here gives a yogurty, floral vibe that’s certainly tasty but serves more than anything else to make up for the lack of fullness and balance. Finish is sort of fakey and sticky. I wouldn’t turn one of these down but it’s nothing to rave about.
