UPDATED: JAN 3, 2013 12oz Bottle. The pour was a cloudy medium amber with a small (less than 1 finger) white soapy head that receded down to a thin scattered film with poor lacing. The aroma was of a light grain malt and a sweaty yeast with notes of wheat, citrus (orange) and a bit of coriander. The taste was about the same as the aroma with just a little orange zest and a hint of spice at the end. The flavor lasted an average time with a yeasty citrus taste left behind. Mouthfeel was light in body with a watery and slightly creamy texture and a medium carbonation. Overall this was an average Wheat Ale with a nice tasty and refreshing drinkability. Would be good on a hot summer’s day when you felt like having more than just a couple...

Draft at Miller Valley. Somewhat opaque copper color with off-white head and substantial lacing. Spice, licorice, and pepper aroma. Citrus and string coriander upfront follows by grass and wheat with licorice. Substantial mouthfeel. Long, drying finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Date: June 3, 2015... Glassware: Weihenstephan wheat... Occasion: pre-Fourth of July prep (mostly) done... Appearance: hazy, golden, glowing--an unfiltered look; the head is snow white and thick, leaving solar flares as it descends from a three-finger head to a quarter-inch cream... Aroma: surprisingly fruity hits early--coriander, yes, but bubblegum, malty wheat, and some woody hints; fragrant wheat esters complete an alluring start... Palate: smooth, slightly astringent sip; surprisingly creamy and medium-bodied; some effervescence late; some intrusion from pulpy, woody textures...Taste: the coriander suggests orange peel, with some odd bitterness and band-aid astringency; probably could use a garnish to amplify the flavor profile; otherwise, pretty limited .Overall: not quite the sunset promised by the label; the hops addition makes for a strong start, but the most important aspect of the experience--the taste--is a bit off...the beer is refreshing but not enjoyable as a stand-alone; crisp but uneven...

Leinenkugel’s beers fill some niche slots on my go-to lists. (Think Inexpensive and Commonly Available.) Hey, sometimes you need some backup options. Sunset Wheat may not be the go-to in the Wheat Ale category, but it could be a runner-up in the right circumstances. Appearance is nice. I’m a sucker for heady wheat ales and Sunset Wheat isn’t do too bad. Aroma is faint but has a nice bread note. Flavor reveals subtle spiciness, honey sweetness, and smooth malt. Mouthfeel is relatively thirst-quenching yet on the thin side. While Blue Moon is still my go-to Wheat that can be found anywhere, there may be times I’d be willing to swap the Sun(set) for the Moon.

A good summer beer. The color is a cloudy orange. It is very good but like the summer Shandy is very fruity. I would still recommend it as a light summer beer.

Aroma: Medium-high orange zest. medium apricot. Appearance: Hazy, burnt gold body. Small, white head, fair retention. Flavour: Medium floral, fruity, peachy, apricots. Medium crispness. Sherbet. Dry finish with lingering sherbet. Medium sweetness, low bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: Tastes like sherbet sweets. The sweetness makes it hard to want to have another one. Not meeting the spicy requirements of a wit. 330 ml bottle, poured. Thanks Danie! 16A. Witbier

Leinenhugels are always too fruity and sweet for me and this is no different. 'Beer with natural flavors' = wine cooler to me. Not a bad drink but it is a bad beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I give this an across the board average rating. I used to think it was above average, but the more I try it as well as other witbiers I have to rate it middle of the road. Fruity-citrus flavor, but not as citrusy as Blue Moon, and a bit lighter and thinner. Pours a pale golden-yellow versus a yellow-orange like Blue Moon. Has a little bit of head. A decent daytime beer if looking for something on the lighter side.
