   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 15/20
McCracken (14) - San Francisco, USA - JUN 16, 2008
Poured with a tan head that somewhat quickly dissipated and effervesced. The appearance is very dark brown if not almost black with light garnet highlights. Almost like a blackberry. Aroma is light and fruity, almost champagne or winelike in its soft grape-like character. Some raisin-like aromas are present. Mouthfeel is highly carbonated with light mouthfeel. No astringency and no alcohol warmth. The flavor is also quite mild but has some nice fruity character that brings it together. Light spicy yeast character with some light raisiny esters. Bitterness is medium low but no hop flavor or aroma to speak of. The finish is dry and again, like champagne, though finishes with a nice mild sweetness that lingers for a bit. Overall, very drinkable and digestable given the dry finish. Interesting and worth trying if you can find it. This version wasn’t marketed as "dark", but it probably was the same thing...

I liked the colour on this one. Lacking a bit in smell. Other than that it’s an okay beer.

Der Geruch erinnert mich an eine Wiese. Das Bier ist würzig und überaus aromatisch, dennoch in einigen Teilen recht mild. Es ist schwer zu beschreiben, da das Bier ein ganz eigenes Aroma hat. Test vom 15.6.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 13,9,10,10,4,10 - 9,85

Good dark beer made with buckwheat. Always nice to try beers brewed with different grains.

have to admit i have trouble tasting anything in this one. It’s smooth, maybe slightly citrus flavored and a fairly dry finish, but it’s all barely noticable

A: snifter. pours a deep rich mahogany color with a huge light tan head. amazing retention with a gorgeous amount of lacing. S: sweet and sour aromas are blending extremely well. some spices are all over this, clove and nutmeg in particular. some fall fruits, mostly dark, linger for a while, apples, raisins, figs and some red grapes. T: way more bland than the aromas, probably form the buckwheat. some sweet fruits fall in the back of the palate, but the beer has a watery flavor. not nearly as malty as I expected. M: very smooth mouthfeel. carbonation level is perfect, but the body of the beer is almost nonexistent. very buttery. D: very drinkable, but it lacks flavor, not by much though. very mellow for 6%, but I don’t see buckwheat bring utilized correctly when used for brewing. good experimental try, but not my bag.
