Papsoe (23023) - Frederiksberg, - JAN 19, 2009
On tap. At "Lemke am Schloss", Berlin-Charlottenburg. Pours a very cloudy orangey golden with an off-white head leaving laces. Aroma of yeast but also a little butter. Medium body, yeasty with a whiff of banana and a lightly tart touch. The finish is dry. Bavarian Hefe still rules! 080109

Tap at the brewpub, Berlin. Pours a truly hazy gold with a moderate, white head. Big wheat nose, light tang, yeast, banana. Medium sweet flavor, nice wheat, nice toast, mild yeast, light banana. Medium in body with average carbonation. Crisp, light dry finish, wheat and yeast, bread, light spices. Very, very good stuff. I like the subtle dryness.

Christian (8561) - Odense, DENMARK - DEC 26, 2011
On tap at Brauhaus Mitte in October. Cloudy golden with a small white head. Grainy and fruity aroma with both DMS and a lot of yeast. Sweet malty flavour with little character.

EithCubes (3340) - GERMANY - NOV 19, 2011
Draught at the Mitte location. Hazy orange with a lacing white head. Nose is mildly sweet with heavy orange esters. No bitterness and minimal sweetness, no real esters or phenols in here, are they using a HW yeast? I mean, I guess this is a wheat beer. Hips hops, medium body.

DuffMan (4430) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 19, 2011
Part of the tasting tray at the Brauhaus, east Berlin location. Cloudy medium golden. Wheat slightly sweaty aroma. Light wheaty palate, sweet, a little citrus, light hoppy note in the finish. No spice.

Brauhaus Lemke, Berlin.

Beer No. 38 on my tour through Austria, Germany and Denmark.
Draught at the brewpub. Cloudy yellow/orange coloured, small white head, not so typical pretty neutral nose. Moderate yeasty, fruity and light spicy with hint of banana in the finish.

My Bottom Line :
Wheat cookies, caramel nuances and a touch of banana merge in this round-bodied Weizen.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A ring of foam surrounds the cloudy orangey blond.
-Strangely enough, this is not as quenching as their Pils or their Zwickel.
-The flavor profile is harmonious, but too sweet for my preferences in the style.
-Effervescence is intense, which is to be expected, but it tends to make the sugars more apparent to me....
-This is half-way between a Dunkel Weizen and a pale Weizen. Give me a drier version (ŕ la Schneider Original, for example) and I would be happier.

On tap at the Hackescher Markt location.

Oakes (10202) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 9, 2011
Tan-orangey colour. Smells awful, full of phenols and sewage. Plasticy, quite sweet mixing sugary bubblegum (not bad) with those unwanted pedio-phenol notes. Blech.

Tap@Brewpub. What a pity. The other Lemke beers were so nice. Aroma has cooked veggies with banana and citrus. Cloudy, yellow, white head, fair lace. Sweetish, odd spices, banana, lemon. Full body.

Draft @ brewpub. Murky rust color, fairly stable head. Terrible phenolic aroma is gluey. Grainy flavors. Decent malts but with glue in the aftertaste. Tastes better than it smells, but not in happy shape in general.
