BlackHaddock (4552) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2013
Drank twice during Feb 2013 in the Dickenstr/rail arches outlet while in Berlin. Impressed, a deep reddy brown body with a full and lasting white head of foam. Malts foremost in the aroma and taste: fairly sweet, caramel and molasses rule here. Body depth was fine: could have been thicker and ’meatier’ I suppose, but this is a lager/pilsner based beer and that should be remembered when comparing and rating/reviewing beers. By far the best of the four brews on offer during my visits: I do have a sweet tooth though, so this suited my tastes nicely.

banii (240) - Sola, NORWAY - JAN 10, 2013
Januart 2013: Tap at the brewhouse. Cloudy and dark dunkel. Nice white head. Taste of wheat, caramel, nuts and toast. One of the best dunkels brewed in Berlin, and the best beer Lemke offers.

On Tap @ the brewpub. The head is medium, the body brown and a bit cloudy. It smells malty, darkmalty, a bit hoppy. The taste is darkmalty-sweet, a little bit watery-mild, light and sweet. Overall ok! 9/10/10/9/-/10

On tap @ Lemke, Berlin. Pours a clear light brown with an off-white head. Smells of malts. Light sweet- and dryness. Lots of caramel malt aromas and hints of brown sugar. Tiny hints of burnt malts aromas. Bit unbalanced maltyness.

Leighton (13248) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 1, 2012
Tap at the brewpub. Pours clear, red-brown with a moderate, light tan foam head. Dark malt nose, light caramel, perhaps even some cocoa. Light roast in the nose! (Haven’t encountered much roast in Berlin.) Very, very nice flavor. Good roasty wholegrain bread, some earthy bitterness, light to medium sweetness, toast, toasty sugars, light burnt wood. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Light earthy, roasty finish, mild earthy hops, lingering toast, light cocoa and caramel. One of the best brewpub beers of Berlin.

On tap at Brauhaus Mitte in October. Cloudy amber with a lasting off-white head. Grainy malt aroma with notes of chocolate, toffee and caramel, and a lot of DMS. Sweet grainy flavour with caramel. Very brewpub-y

Try the beer sampler at this brewpub, interesting contrasts. The original was by far my favourite of the four that were available. I wish they had a Steinkrug for this, it would have made for an even more pleasureable experience.
