The nose will enjoy pepper and gentle roasting aromas such as cocoa and bitter chocolate. After a crisp initial taste, the malt releases more gentle avours. The texture is dry. A subtle acid kick from the roasting aromas leads to the nale: toffee, toast and cocoa notes gently linger. Dominantly malty, slim, dry.

Dunkelmalzig und vollends gelungen. Tolle Kaffe-und Röstaromen. Das gute daran ist, dass es dabei doch recht vollmundig und nicht zu trocken ist... Für mich ein sehr gutes dunkles

UPDATED: JUL 7, 2007 One of the beers that I tried while at Brauhaus Lemke in Berlin. This is the one I enjoyed most. One of the best beers I’ve ever had. I wish I could find it in America because I would load up on it!

Try the beer sampler at this brewpub, interesting contrasts. The original was by far my favourite of the four that were available. I wish they had a Steinkrug for this, it would have made for an even more pleasureable experience.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours clear, red-brown with a moderate, light tan foam head. Dark malt nose, light caramel, perhaps even some cocoa. Light roast in the nose! (Haven’t encountered much roast in Berlin.) Very, very nice flavor. Good roasty wholegrain bread, some earthy bitterness, light to medium sweetness, toast, toasty sugars, light burnt wood. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Light earthy, roasty finish, mild earthy hops, lingering toast, light cocoa and caramel. One of the best brewpub beers of Berlin.

Pours a clear dark copper with amber tones with a frothy head. Aroma malts, barley and hazelnuts. Flavor is malts, mild vanilla and raisin undertones with hops to balance. Body is light with high carbonation.

Draught, at Lemkes Spezialitätenbrauerei, Berlin, on 26th September 2009. Russet red with off-white vanishing head of foam. Some rich malt aromas of biscuit/cookie initially, followed by a highly flavoursome, delicately balanced "focus" of flavour in which a grassy hop is met and matched by a rich cookie malt. The result is a full-spectrum very tasty beer on a zingy, tongue-tickling mouthfeel. This beer stood up very well to the meal of sausage, sauerkraut and German mustard that accompanied it - great stuff!

Pours dark auburn, good frothy head. Lots of roasted malt and caramel on the nose and this continues into the taste. Exceptionally drinkable. Nice bitter finish, balanced well by the sweetness and hint of cinder toffee. Liked it a lot.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2007 Draught at the brewpub. Nut brown, creamy head. Mildly roasty. Soft and velvetty with medium-full body. Despite the softness it’s solid and malt accented with notes of butter. Fairly low bitterness. A top quality dunkel!

355ml or US-style 12oz Buddel bb31.09/2016 (batch 310316-A), B-D. - Bref: Dry yet fruity caramalts hover between Dunkel and Alt, landing at a Boston Lager-inspired Vienna with satisfaying rounded flavours and high drinkability. - - Mostly bready, toasted malts and caramel in aroma tinged with sweet herbal notes. Smooth, full mouthfeel suffused with lovely dry toffee and toasted malts, less angular than Boston Lager, less hoppy than an Alt - on point for an Amber Lager/Vienna I’d say. Finishes on cocoa powder with a touch of liquorice. Going by earlier raters, this must have been a particularly decent batch? Surprisingly satisfying - well-done, old-school Berlin-Wien-Achse!
