COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lemp St. Louis Lager is a true German style lager, and conforms to Rheinheitsgebot. Brewed in an organic brewery with a smooth, lightly hopped taste that will please the most discriminating palate. Lemp was the first lager style beer in America. Come taste why first is always best.

Very clear light amber. Slight sour maltiness and a bit of yeast in the smell. Taste is earthy malt, dry, sweaty yeast. Sweet, yet drying... Not a very clean or pleasant finish. Bad even by pale lager standards, I thought.

Wow is this stuff just terrible. It has that typical lager nose and taste, but kind of sweet behind the funk. It was so bad I couldnt finish more than half of the bottle. I would avoid this. Interesting note, on the bottle it claims that it is americas oldest lager and that it is brewed in saint louis mo. But here it says that it is brewed in Pennsylvania. Go figure.

The history of Lemp is far more interesting than the beer. This was nothing more than a weak, watery lager in the style of a macrobrewery. Perhaps Lemp made better beer in the old days in St Louis but this was awful. Take time to read the history of Lemp, however. Interesting stuff. A slogan was "Walk with a Lemp."

11-16-07 bottle.
Smells musky and pale lager like (surprise). Hints of sweat or B/O in there too. Clear amber color. Little to no real taste - just slightly skunky and sour. Overall, weak and unenjoyable to say the least.

Dark golden color with a soft airy white candle looking head. Aromas of grape peels with perhaps a touch of herbal hops. Sweet start in the flavors with corn grits and raisins. A hint of malt in the finish, but the body still shudders from the first taste. Light with quite a bit of spritz of the palate. I should have passed on this.

Pours golden amber with lots of bubbles and carbonation. Skunky nose. Dissapating offwhite head. Light and thin on the pallate. Sour cardboard taste with some bitterness at the finish. Not very refreshing and not even sessionable. Natural light is more smooth. Absolute Drainpour. Also, I thought Yeungleng was the first American Lager??
