This is the beer to have, if you’re in Cancun, Cozumel or Playa del Carmen, or anywhere else in the Yucatan. Nothing like it to wash the salty seawater taste after diving the reefs. Rich, creamy yet light on the palate with nutty aftertaste. My favorite mexican beer. Negra Modelo almost as good, not quite.

UPDATED: JAN 15, 2004 There are some excellent beers south of the border and this one is only found waaaayy south. Yucatan only as far as I know. Malty, rich, Munich Malt. Daddowdalls and I get along well on this one. The Corona Company does indeed make a beer - but it's not Corona.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Nekronos (2655) - Xalapa, MEXICO - OCT 16, 2004
UPDATED: JAN 30, 2006 Good one!, it was rated 2 by a friend and I the last time we did the Mexican beers contest. It’s brown and dark, although a little light.

Recently had this beer in Cozumel. Best Mexican beer, ever! Easy to drink, more flavor then Corona, Dos Eques, Pacifico, etc. with a mild after taste.

I enjoyed this brew in a little cafe outside the Mayan Ruins of Tulum Mexico.
Pours a clear almost amber color with a smallish bubbly white head that dissipates quickly and leaves minimal lace. Wow there is something in the aroma here other than corn and dms! Darker malts may actually be present here. Sweet malty aroma gives some hints of caramel, and lightly toasted bread. Taste is malty and a little sweet with hints of caramel and cocoa. Very little if any hops are found in this brew. Light body, heavy level of carbonation, syrupy/watery mouthfeel. I think I enjoyed this most out of all the light lagers I had on my trip. Or maybe it was the searing heat and the thirst I worked up climbing around the ruins for half the day. I enjoyed several of these before sailing away.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 TBone (9434) - Pori, FINLAND - FEB 29, 2004
Bottle (sampled: Merida 18.2.04)
Brown with the shades of red colour. Small tanned head. Aroma fruity: raisins. Sweet fruity and malty taste. Lots of CO2, not much aftertaste.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2008 I had this beer in Puebla, Mexico recently and I was very impressed. It poured well with little head, and the appearance was so much more appealing than other similar dark beers. Decent body, good flavor, and decent aftertaste. Would recommend to anyone visitng Mexico and looking for an alternative over Negra Modelo. Especially impressive because a beer of this caliber is almost impossible to find in Mexico.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2004 This is a very good beer from Yucatan but the strange thing is that Yucatan is a Southern Mexican State not particulary famous for its beers...In recent years this beer is making a push on the market.
Going from just another unknown local trademark to national notorious and now, international. Who knows?
