2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
In short: A problematic sweet stout with metallic flavor. Something went wrong here
How: Bottle 330ml, consumed fresh the day of purchase from a Vinmonopolet in Norway
The look: Black body topped by a medium tan head
In long: Nose is burnt malts, some ferrous notes (rusty old metal) and light notes of chocolate. Taste is very sweet, there is a bit of the sweet velvety character I expect from an oatmeal stouts but it is overwhelmed by sugary crunchiness, notes of coffee, alcohol warmth, annoying ferrous/scrap metal sensation. Not sure what to make of this, bought the bottle in Norway and consumed on the same day so it is probably not bad cellaring, I hope this is a bad bottle because the metallic character in this one was out of control. Too bad. My many bad ratings may make me look like someone who complains all the time, but really when I am not complaining about something I am really not someone who complains a lot.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tiny beige head. Opaque black body goes deep dark red at edges. Deep chocolatey earthy sooty aroma with licorice notes. Dry-sweet earthy raisiny licorice taste with roasty soy sauce notes. Mid-to-full body. Mild mouthfeel. Dry roasty chocolatey mint aftertaste with resiny soy sauce notes. Good and balanced, but not great. The alcohol is a bit too prominent for me. (0.33l bottle, Amundsen, Oslo.)

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle. BB 28/06/16. (Systembolaget) Östersund, Sweden.
Pitch black colour with a small brown head.
The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, some ash, oat and mild sweetness. The flavour is very strong. There’s roasted malt, hoppy bitterness, ashy dryness, more dryness and some very much burned maltiness. This is very dry and very dark. And it’s very heavy and rich as advertised. Too heavy to be enjoyable.

Bottle at the Croydonia Tasting, 13/07/13, big thanks to Leighton for this one.
Mid black with a dirty tan head that reduces to a swirl and edgeing.
Nose is roasted malt, liqourice, dark fruits, burnt rubber, dark toffee.
Taste comprises brown sugars, dark toffee, woody notes, cocoa poweder, light smoked pork, dark fruits, touch of booze.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, boozey finish - a little hot.
Ok impy but lacks depth and sophistication.
