A very dark brown color, medium-sized frothy head. Aroma has dark fruits, especially raisin, licorice and some maltiness. Taste is sweet; flavours of raisin and licorice dominate. Some maltiness and a little spiciness appear too. Palate is only light to medium bodied and slightly sticky - should be fuller. This beer is maybe a bit one-dimensional and too light. Not bad but not great either.

clovey spiicy aroma. smooth sweet body, ok carbonation. nice roast, but a bi sweet. Late finish had black tea, which was nice. too sweet for me, but no seeter than many christma brews. I wouldn’t kick it out of bed for eating biscuits...

0,33 bottle @ Melkebaren, Sandnes. Pours amber in color with a nice tan head. Rich aromas of ginger and star anise. There is also some funk from the belgian yeast. The same goes for the flavors. I really like the belgian funk in this beer, and I’m looking forward to see how the beer develops over time, maybe the strong ginger and anise will decrease some. All in all, this is my christmas beer for this year for sure. :-)

Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Pours a low head with some lacing. Deep amber/brown in color. Aromas of dried dark fruits, some nuts and caramel. Tastes of some spices, fruits with a nice bitterness. Not so rich in body as I expected for this beer. A good beer, but lack some body/mouthfeel. Going to lager some bottles til next christmas...

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Very dark ruby colour, moderate off-white head. Distinct spicy aroma and flavour, on a background of caramel malts. Notes of star anise / aniseed, and other Christmas spices. The sweetness seems just right. Moderate hops and liquorice in the finish.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.8%. Copper to brown colour, large off-white head. Spicy aroma, notes of star anise, ginger and brown kandij sugar. A hint of vomit. Fairly light bodied for its strength. The flavour is rather sweet with notes of caramel, brown kandij sugar, anise and ginger. Too moderate hops. As I hate star anise in beer (if not used with the utmost moderation), this beer starts with a real handicap in my book. And if you use ginger, a slight ginger burn in the finish would be nice. But hey, Lervigs Jul is drinkable - just not Mike Murphy’s best.
