COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Editor’s note: First served on tap at 7.7% ABV.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle courtesy of Summer Secret Santa. Aroma has a distinct rye character with some lighter pale, cracker malt notes. Moderate hop character, fairly citrus forward with lighter notes of tropical fruit and pine resin. Pours a pale, hazy golden orange with some copper hues. Medium sized, slightly off white head of moderate thickness displays average retention. Medium light lacing and faint legs. Flavor is sweet and malty with a nice rye note and some light cracker and caramel. Medium high bitterness balances out the sweetness. Medium notes of citrus and tropical fruit with lighter stone fruit and resin character. Some light alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty decent rye double IPA. A little sweeter than I would prefer but there is some nice hop character that works well with the rye.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2014 Draught @ MCSVAF, Roma; pours hazy, light orange with small, but creamy off white head. Moderate aroma is malty, along with floral and citrus hops and rye spiceness. The taste starts out with exotic fruit hop notes and it’s followed by caramel malts sweetness and rye spiceness, but ands quite bitter and dry. Medium body, soft to lively carbonation. Nice brew!

My Bottom Line:
Grassy, orange-y hops scent this very enjoyable IPA, building on chewy cereals and resinous bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the misty orange.
-The finish is long and very flavorful.
-Mouthfeel is dryish and effervescent.
-Rye doesn’t impose itself and instead adds a touch of depth.

Bottle.
