Fyldig, rik smak fra ristede karamellmalter, utsøkt britisk humle og rosiner - ingredienser som sammen med vann og gjær også skaper den rødlige gløden og det gyldne skummet. Fyr i peisen, rull ut bjørneskinnet, hell i glasset. La Lervig Winter Ale med sine 8,3 alkoholprosenter varme opp vinterkvelden.

Hazy reddish brown color with a little but lasting head. Aroma has dried fruitiness, berries, syrup and spiciness - overall impression is similar with many British Barley Wines. Taste is sweet, malty and spicy. Dried fruits and berries are prominent along with malty elements, alcohol features a bit in the finish. Hoppiness is discreet, fairly mild. Palate is medium bodied and fairly flat. This could use a bit more body and the alcohol made it a little harsh. Not bad though, a warming winter ale.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle courtesy of my Secret Santa, gunnar. Aroma is very sweet with lots of caramel and toffee. Lighter burnt sugar character along with raisin, fig and prune. Hints of roast and a touch of alcohol. Pours a slightly hazy, copper amber color with some light brown hues. A thin, tan head quickly disappears. No lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is also fairly sweet, more so in the finish. Moderate caramel and toffee notes with faint roast. Moderate raisin with light fig and prune and faint cherry. Some burnt sugar and a touch of alcohol in the finish. Low bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and low but noticeable alcohol warmth. Overall, an alright beer and good for the winter but I am not a huge fan of the overly sweet, raisin and burnt sugar forward beer. A nice sipping beer, but I think I would choose a bigger beer for a sipper on a cold night.

Bottle @ Cardinal. Pours deep amber with some off white head. Strong taste of caramal, some roastyness and sweetness from either sugars, yeast or raisins. A big beer. Notes of alcohol and a somewhat short ending. Very strong flavors. Should have been more smooth. Hopefully it will even out over time.

Flaske 0,33l - gave fra Rune. Takker! Gyldenbrun / amber. Høyt svakt farget skum som starter høyt men flater ut i løpet av et par minutter. Forsiktig maltaroma med fruktige undertoner. God. Smaken litt sherryaktig men alkoholen slår inn etterhvert og overtar. Tørr fruktig ettersmak. Litt uvariert - men en god "winter warmer". Dette burde vi ha mer av på våre breddegrader.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of KnutAlbert. Pours a clear amber with a creamy off-white head. Sweet caramel and overripe fruits in the nose - and what appears like British hops. Solid body - very solid - lots of caramel - a little ashy, some licorice and again a twist of overripe fruit. Quite some alcohol in the finish. 100511

Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Pours a golden dark brown beer, with a small head which dissolves into larger bubbles rather quickly. Very sweet aroma, fruity, smells like strawberry jam! The taste starts out with caramel and malty toffee, then hints of strawberries, finishes with raisins, some more strawberry hints and a kinda medicinal alcohol presence. The alcohol is pretty noticable overall, maybe a little too much so I’d say. I also get a bit of ash late in the aftertaste, which isn’t particularly pleasant. Nice balance. Smooth mouthfeel with low/soft carbonation. Overall it’s one of the better Norwegian winter warmer/christmas beers I’ve tried.
