Limited head and coca-cola colour. Nose has melted caramel, rice, oil, and a touch of taragon. Palate has hints of sake (of course) wtih red wine vinegar, citrus and flour. Very lightly carbonated. Sweet malt finish. Because it appears to be a valid attempt at something quite different, and often the only avenue for some people (being gluten free), this beer is worthy of at least some appreciation.

Bouteille 341 ml. 5%.

(Rating #2146)

341ml bottle. Pours an impressive mahogany/red with tan head that dissipates quickly. Oddly...chemical on the nose with a graininess. Very strange. Perhaps it’s the buckwheat. I don’t think I’ve ever smelled such a thing before. A little better on the palate but tastes like a watered down blend of coke and whisky. There’s a hint of roast in there. Strange, but easily the best of the gluten free beers I’ve tried.

EnSiFeRuM (501) - Quebec, CANADA - DEC 26, 2008

341ml bottle pours amber in color with a moderate white head that settles rapidly to leave no lacing on the glass. Aroma is light caramel and not much else. Taste is light caramel malt with an undesirable hop bitterness and just something which I cannot place is off on this one. Nothing really special here, just not my cup of tea.

Bottle: Poured a clear light brown color ale with a small foamy head with light retention and lacing. Aroma of light cereal notes with unrefined grain. Taste is not the greatest with unrefined grain and light cereal notes with residual sugar notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Only to be consumed by those allergic to gluten.

341 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Clear deep copper with a small tan head. Aroma: Some decent malt aromas – light brown sugar and caramel, a touch of vague fruitiness; alcohol, a bit of apple or pear juice?, slightly peppery like a rye beer, not awful. Palate: Medium-ish body, fairly lively effervescence. Flav.: Watery, vague fruitiness and slight rye pepperiness, a strange...vegetal/floral note?, old apple juice, not particularly good; dry with some odd astringency and a watery, peppery, vaguely fruity finish.

Another miss for gluten-intolerants and Celiacs. Sorry, folks.
