Caged cork bottle 6%. Golden beer with small head. Aroma of citrus, yeast and a hint of vinegar. Taste is citrus, yeast, tangerine, some spice and a little vinegar again. OK beer, just doesn’t seem to gel well though.

Bottle from Aldi, Great Barr. Sour Belgian yeasty flavour. A little bit of flower, a little wheat and banana. A bit cloying. Kind of OK, but kind of oversweet too. Biere de Garde is kind of a weakling style, huh?

A budget beer from Aldi. Just like Leffe blonde. Rating reflects value. Is a 16 without

A pretty decent bier de Garde though it’s lost 1.2% since I last had it. The 6% version stands up well and is easier to drink. Big white fluffy head, lively yellow body, bread, yeast and soft sweet malt with a good hop balance.

As a pro brewer myself i was very keen to try this and was surprised. It has a very nice one finger head with a medium carbonation. Golden in colour. It has a very nice wheat flavour with some citrus notes. The finishing is that what you would expect given by the esters of the Belgian Yeast. Nice one Aldi!

75cl bottle from Aldi, looking very similar to the illustration, but ABV 6% and described as a Biere d’Abbaye. A pale amber pour with a thick white head; grassy aroma with a touch of yeast; fresh, sweet, grainy body; and a light prickly bitterness and a trace of farmyard to finish. A swaffably good ale.

rauchbier (3598) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - NOV 23, 2013
Bottle (6%), from Aldi, Grimsby. Pale gold, fluffy but shortlived white head and moderate condition. Gentle fruity sweet nose with a hint of peppery spicy yeastiness, nicely balanced in the mouth with a yeast bitteness complementing a pleasant fruity sweetness with a touch of chalky mineral notes, gently yeasty bitterness laced with fruit notes in the finish

This is the "abbey beer" version, currently on sale in Aldi Sunderland for £2.49 a bottle. 660 ml bottle served in a 1/2 pint chalice over the course of an evening, so a good head from topping up. Bright golden body, thin white head. Mildly spicy citric aroma. Soft lemon flavour, gentle bitterness, medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Not the most complex Belgian beer, slightly generic to be honest, but a pleasant relaxing bargain at the price.
