Pours a real dark brown colour, close to black, but with ruby highlights. Big frothy mocha-coloured head with good retention and creamy lacing. Aromas dark fruits, roasted malts and spices. This is where the ginger and cinnamon stands out. The mouthfeel is smooth. The taste starts off smoothly as well with well-blended roasted malts, dark fruit, cocoa and then it hits you. The spices seem like chipotle, so a nice burn results. After a little while good coffee notes appear in the aftertaste. Quite a nice dark brew with lots going on, but all very well balanced.

Bottle - Ginger, orange and cardamom in chocolate. Deep bet black with a rich brown head. Dark chocolate, candied ginger and light spices. Well spiced but has a reasonable balance with a touch of heat in the finish. Not bad.

Pours jet black with a quickly dissipating mocha head, spotty lacing around the glass. Aroma is deeply earthy with some chocolate and roasted notes coming through; I feel the earthy spice notes obscure the malts a bit too much. In the mouth, assertive spices up front...getting some sharp ginger and chile flavors that are muted nicely by the malt profile. Finishes abruptly with lingering heat on the throat; there’s an odd aftertaste as if the brew didn’t ferment out as cleanly as it should for this style. Low carbonation, body fells a tad thin. Can’t say it’s a bad beer but BdT has more solid offerings for sure. I would opt for a chipotle version of their Obscur Desir any day,

750 ml bottle shared with Seb from local iga grocery A: chocolate, minty, cinnamon app: pitch black no head t/p: full body with moderate long finish. Hotness from the spices. O: something else. the hotness is surprising a little too much for my taste. Won’t buy again but salute the effort.

750ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau, Quebec. Black in colour with a thin lasting tan head, light lacing. The aroma is of chocolate, coffee and spices. The flavour lightly sweet, chocolate, light roast, spices. Finishes long with the spice building.

J'aime beaucoup.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown/black with one finger of beige head. Subtle nose of spices, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is an explosion of spice (cinnamon, ginger, mint), more coffee and molasses. Medium body, very sweet. There’s a lot going on.

Whatup14 (1047) - Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 14, 2013
Carbonation moyenne-faible, corps moyen.
