On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown/black with one finger of beige head. Subtle nose of spices, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is an explosion of spice (cinnamon, ginger, mint), more coffee and molasses. Medium body, very sweet. There’s a lot going on.

Whatup14 (583) - Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 14, 2013

(Rating #4514)

In short: A very spicy roasted Impy stout. Not my thing.
How: Tap at Brouhaha, Montreal.
The look: Black body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose has some ‘hot’ spices over a powerful roasty maltiness. Taste has the elements that would make a solid stout with plenty of cereals, lots of roast, some molasses, some ground coffee, and some residual sugars. But this solid stout is augmented by hot spices. I noted chilli peppers cayenne peppers and anise and why not some cinnamon. Too spicy for my liking, I just don’t like hot-spicy stouts, not even the much beloved CCB Hunahpu’s. La Belle Empoisonneuse doesn’t go too overboard with the hot spiciness so I found it drinkable but not really enjoyable. And to all those people who said I would never amount to anything, look at me now, I’m rating beers on a web-site, Ha! Take that! In your face haters.

Tried on tap as a sample at BdT and very tempted to order a pint. The most interested beer I have had in a while and possibly ever. Black with a nice brown head, crazy intriguing aroma of cinnamon, cocoa powder, powdered ginger with some nice malts; moderate body and carbonation with a dryness that completely sucks the moisture out of your palate and leaves ginger, anise and cinnamon to linger. Although I like other BdT beers more this is the one you should seek out for its uniqueness.

mcberko (5362) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 8, 2012
On tap at Brouhaha, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of light roasted malt, licorice, some mint and weird spices. Flavour of sour berries, light toasted malt, but the sourness and chili pepper-like spicienss is most dominant. Medium-bodied and unique, but not overly enjoyable to me.

Wow, Pours dark brown with a small dark brown top. Aroma is chocolate, deep roasted malts, small coffee and spice. Taste is full mouthfeel, lots of roasted malts and bitter chocolate and a nice spice aftertaste. Great balance.

On tap at the brewpub. Jet black pour, medium brown head. Aromas of burnt malts, soy, and pine from the hops. There is definitlely some herbs in here, im getting some licorice i’m assuming is anise, and even some slight lemony corriander. Soft carb, heavy mouthfeel, to be expected. Medium bitter finish, grassy, medicinal, herby finish, with some slight roast.

Eructoblaster (2852) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 12, 2012
On tap at the brewpub. Opaque black body with low carbonation and a thin brown creamy head. Strong, complex malty/hoppy aroma with plummy, brown sugar, woody, and spicy hints. Its robust malty/hoppy taste carries vineous, cocoa, and ginger notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Great stuff!

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, a superb aroma of cocoa, coffee grinds, spices, cinnamon and light black pepper. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate with mint notes, herbs, and nice burning chili, alcohol warmth, coconut, rich and smooth. On tap at BdT, May 16, 2012.
