Big 750ml brown bottle from my local Métro store, now written 9% ABV. Pours a deep ruby-amber colour with a creamy beige head that has great retention and thick lacing. Loads of apples for aromas, with some hop taking over after breathing. Notes of cocoa and vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel and full-bodied. Not sure if my taste buds are dead, but I do not feel any alcohol burn. Smooth as light beer, but with lots more taste. Again, the mix of apples and hop are quite nice and refreshing. Mild roasted malt with hints of nuts, chocolate and caramel. Quite pleasant and goes down too well for such a strong dark beer.

Sample tray. I miss Quebec scotch ales. I hope this is as good. Dark copper. No head. Alcohol and malt scent. A bit flat. Heavy. Peat and alcohol. More of a scotch liquere.
0.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 Sammy (7033) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 23, 2012
Fresh bottle (March 2012 dated) from grand Duc. Heavily oxidized. The smell, opened and offered to a band of 5 of us, was deemed tuna or feet. Unapproachable. Closing my nose, you would think I would get at some taste rather I got a muddle of water and cereal. Boozy and not too drinkable. Brown bodied.

Bottle 750 ml. Appearance: Pours mahogany with a small off-white head. Very nice lacing. Aroma: Caramel, malt, earth and peat. Taste: Peated, caramel, malt. Underlying tartness. Floral/herbal taste. Overall: Average scotch ale. Doesn’t worth the hight price tag.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Lanchester (175) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 31, 2012
Pours a fairly clear and deep amber hue with a thin, light beige head; quickly recedes to a ring around the glass. Rich aroma of caramels and dark fruits, tied together with underlying toasted and woody/earthy notes. In the mouth, taste follows the nose with the caramel malts vying for attention until they are curbed by a slight hop bitterness and faint warming alcohol in the finish. Carbonation is low and soft, allowing room for expression of flavor. Mouth feel is light and airy and makes for a very enjoyable and easy-drinking version of the style.
