On tap at Le bateau de nuit. Orange-brown color with subtle herbals aromas. Bitter taste up front of hops and little barley taste. Difficult to find alcoholic taste in this beer even with a 9% ABV. A good barley wine, only not my type. (Rating # 9)

Glass, on tap at Braise et Houblon brewpub. Light orange color with a big white head. Sweet roma of caramel and roasted malts & barley, candied oranges are also really dominant in aroma & taste. Alcohol is noticeable but is blending well with the overall taste. A good and well balanced barley wine!

Drank on tap (13 oz) at Braise et Houblon (Laval), Quebec), on April 5, 2011. Red mahogany, small head. Aroma of raw barley but sweet, nutty notes. Slightly sweet taste of barley, very dry and bitter, not very malty, little sensation of alcohol. Not bad, but I feel there is a problem with the tap line!

On tap at Braise et Houblon, dark copper-mohagany color, with some reddish highlights and a tan head, nice dried fig, raisin, malt sugar, faint burnt sponge toffee nose with some english pudding, carmelized french toast, burnt brown sugar, bran muffin and caramel pudding notes, with some toasted, caramelized, biscuity, chocolate malt, toffee nuttiness, date square notes within some brown sugar grêpe, liqueurish Grand Marnier, but without the candyish orange peel, curaçao and light brandy aromas folow through on a full-bodied palate with a warmth, sweet alcoholic, maltiness sugar, light fruity dark dried fig, raisin, flowery hop leafy character, with some Liqueurish Grand Marnier without his orangeish fruitiness, brown sugar, bran muffin, toasted, caramelized, biscuity, roasted malt undertones, and with some french toast, granola bar, cookie dough, brown sugar crêpe, toffee accents, leading towards a warming alcoholic, fruity, dried raisiny, figgy, maltiness sugar, citrusy, leafy, hop bittering finish.

Pours a light orange brown with an off white frothy head. Aroma is sweet caramel and malts. Taste is light, medium body and superbly balanced. Moderate hop bitterness with sweet caramel and very slight roasted barley. I could drink a lot of this.

On tap at BDT.
Appearance : Hazy amber with a medium creamy white head. Light lacing.
Aroma : Great caramel with malt and hops.
Taste : Caramel and resinous hops. Quite malty. Finish has a nice bitterness with some nice caramel. A bit resinous too. Not much alcohol.
Overall : I felt like this was a really well balanced barley wine. Not too sweet and not too hoppy. Sweetness is enjoyable as are the hops. Great stuff.

Tap: Poured a cloudy beige/orangey color ale with a large frothy head with some retention and light lacing. Aroma of citrus and bitter notes are quite dominant with a non-descript malt backbone. Taste is also dominated by loads of green hops with distinctive notes of pine and citrus/grapefruit. Malt backbone is present though not very expressive. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol since there is so much hops. Well brewed though I like my barley wine more on the English side with less hops.

(Rating #3422)
