Huge aroma of chocolate orange, fruit cake, plums and candi sugar. Quite malty, medium bitter finish with a load more fruit. Great stuff!

Dark ruby/brown pour with an off-white head. Aroma is "Christmas Spice." Licorice, orange, citrus, mulled wine. Flavor was the same. Spices overpower any other character the beer might have. Not bad but pretty one-note.

Purchased at my local Métro store. Huge beige head that stays a real long time, with foamy lacing. Its colour is really dark red, which is seen through the highlights. Huge anise nose overpowering the roasted malt, with lots of spices reminding me of Jägermeister. Smooth mouthfeel with no burning at all. The anise is not as strong in the taste, blending the black licorice with some fruits (oranges, citrus) with hints of coffee and chocolate in the finish. A real easy drinking strong ale for those who like anise and spices.

Bouteille 750 mL. Brune opaque. Nez et bouche de gateau aux epices. Une bonne persistance et une bonne intensite.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2012 750 mL bottle; bottled on 11/28/2011. Pours cloudy and dark brown with a small, off-white head. Nose is gingerbread, anise, caramel, cinnamon, cloves, cordiander, dark fruits, and orange; reminescent of Unicum or Jägermeister with the herbal character. The taste is much like the nose: anise, black licorice, gingerbread, plums, caramel malt, orange peel, cloves, coriander, and a bit of yeast funk. The finish is long and bitter, leaving lots of spice. Mouth feel is chewy with medium carbonation. Gingerbread and anise dominate here like many holiday beers, but the orange, dark fruit, and coriander really round this one out. A deliciously spicy brew that is sweet enough to balance the spice, but not overwhelm it.

bottle shared with dad. A: nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel. App: dark brown with lasting beige head. T/p: body is thin with a medium long bitter finish. O: Nice like the spiciness on that one. Only thing that I don’t like is the bitterness. I think its a bit too much.
