On tap at Les Brasseurs du Temps. A rich black colour topped by an appealing tan head. Strong roasted coffee and some booziness in the nose. This is an imperial stout of large tastes. Heavily roasted coffee, roasted malt, chocolate (not too sweet) and a touch of vanilla. The booziness in the nose carries over to the taste, adding some nice warmth. There is a moderate bitterness to the finish, working with the aforementioned roasted elements. It is full bodied with a slightly creamy texture. This might not be your beer if you like hyper blended understated Imperial Stouts. But it’s right up my alley.

Black with a decent chocolate head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, molasses. Full bodied, roasty on the palate with a slightly dry finish. Taste is roasty coffee, anise, dark chocolate, blackcurrant.

Dark chocolate and light but pervasive coffee musk dominate this beer. Pours black with little head or lacing. Doesn’t integrate super well. Thick on palate with musk. Finishes with a light touch of bitterness and lots of caramelized roast malt. Tap at brewpub.

750 mL bottle from Broue Ha Ha served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 22/08/15#312. Deep brown-black with a decent mocha head. Sort of tangy and vinous with lots of dark chocolate, some molasses, ashen deep-roasted masks, some alcohol, a bit of fruitiness, very deep and dark, rounded, quite good. Medium-full body, soft, refined effervescence, silky. Lots of very dark malts, molasses, slightly smoky, molasses, dank hops, a little pine and resin, black coffee, complex and big; lightly sweet with good bitterness, and a long, inky, richly dark malt finish. Nice stuff.

750 ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a resilient beige head. Aroma is coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor is very roasty, some milk chocolate, a hint of milk cream. Not as sweet as I would have liked, but still pretty good. Finish is very bitter, reminiscent of NO’s café au lait. Lingering sweet milk flavor, along with chocolate, roasted hazelnut, mocha-cream. Medium to strong body, unctuous mouthfeel, average carbonation. An overall excellent imperial stout.

750ml bottle poured into snifter. This is 9% abv, not 8% as mentioned here. Pours a nice deep black with an abundant (for the style and abv) 2 1/2 finger thick head. A fine lacing is left on the glass as this one goes down. Aroma is a bit roasted (grains), plum can also be found, along with dark chocolate. I find that it leans quite a bit on the fruity style for an imperial stout. Taste is medium sweet with a somewhat acidic finish. Body is medium, with a creamy texture generated by a pretty lively carbonation for an imp stout with such a high abv, again. Overall, a pretty pleasing experience but far from being a favorite. I feel this is gonna be a one-timer. Mind you, it is good, but for almost 15$ a bottle; it ain’t worth its price.

Backlog rate. Absolutely wonderful imp chocolate stout. Dark as sin, small dark milk-chocolate-colored head. In-your-face hops as well as a lingering dark chocloate/coffee bitterness.
