this brewery always intrigues me... pours a deep ruby brown .. . instant coffee, light tar, roasty charcoal, and light bitterness .. . enjoyable, but i wanted at least some kind of smoke .. . . When, boy? When, ..are you gonna get your act together?

Deep black with a generous frothy light brown head that retained well and left magnificent lacing. Rich aromas of dark fruits like plums and figs, blackberries, chocolate, coffee and smoke. Flavors are similar and similarly complex, with the chocolate and coffee notes coming through a bit stronger, and the addition of brown sugar and molasses. Full body, slick mouthfeel, soft carbonation and a finish that features dark fruit sweetness and alcohol warmth.

Bouteille 750mL, cuvee 2011. Nez dominant de melasse avec des notes de fumee et de tabac. Bouche cremeuse et intense ou le sucre laisse place a l’alcool a la fin: beaucoup de melasse et un peu de cacao.

from bottle, I’ve had this on my shelf for a while i thought i was saving it for something but i may as well drink it. pours a black colour, some caramel around the edges. terrible head in my opinion clearly a result of carbonation it fizzes strongly and dissipates promptly. lovely aroma, deep rich malty notes, sugary sweetness, dark cocoa nibs, maybe some apples and berrys. A richly complex flavour, typical burst of roasted malts combined with chocolate and coffee, prominent coffee bitterness in the aftertaste. Superbly balanced beer. A bit dissapointed to find how fizzy it was it causes a poor head and an unpleasant tingly on the tongue, it’s unessecary in my opinion.

Oh my word oh my word oh my word. This is so many wonderful things all at once. Pours inky black, plus nice head. Aromas are - where to start? Black cherry? Coffee? Chocolate? Bacon? Smoke? Leather? Blackberries? All that in one beer? Yes, and more - and just flat out delicious. Warming alcohol is an exclamation point. A treat.

Holy hell, this beer is too awesome and while they state the obvious, we will not.... Not a single thing out of place and everyone agrees. The nose of this year’s version is so unique and delectable, like a can of the finest smoked oysters, oily and rich with a hint of smoke and unagi... The amazing colour seems to suck light in so much that it makes a black hole look opaque. Once you get through the intensity of the colour you notice the head is tanned and laces with the elegance of Chantilly lace while the viscosity means it hangs on the glass like fine aged port. The palate has so much rich chocolate and coffee but that amazing soy cured eel lingers and couples with the smokiness to produce the finest liquid meal I have ever consumed. The length is nearly as dense as the colour and I know this will sit in my throat long after the 12 or so other beers I will consume this evening have come and gone. This is the Dali of beers... Unique, intense and one any beer lover should not pass up. Would love to see how it develops in 2-5 years too, 3 going to cellar tonight.

Jan. 2, 2012; 750 mL 10% abv. No BBD. A pretty young bottle. 1/7/11. The noses is of fruits, cherry and lychee, with some smokey malts and sweetness. Some spicy alcohol as well. Pours a black with little tan head. Creamy lacing on the glass. Tastes of coffee, chocolate malts with a fruity sweetness. Bitterness comes through with some more smoke and alcohol. Coats the back of the throat. Wish I had another bottle to age a bit longer.
