kramer (1864), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 7, 2008 25 oz bottle, via jimbowood. Pours a dark brown body with just the slightest bit of light passing thru. Nice creamy foamy brown head that retained as a thin film. Huge intense fruity nose, all plum and to a lesser extent raisons, licorice, and cocoa powder. Just a touch of roast and some coffee. Heavy fruit flavor up front starts things off right, but the finish doesn’t do it for me. Seems kinda husky and rough with too much alcohol apparency. Lingering cocoa nibs and alcohol. Mouthfeel is full and thick with some lingering sticky clinginess on the finish. Nice pleasant soft carbonation. Overall, a little too much of a yeast profile as well. Ok, but it’s not as smooth as it could be. It really comes across as more "ale-y" than "lager-y" in it’s character.
