Big, thick, and heavy, luxuriously rich chocolate aroma with underlying fruitiness that evokes blackberries and raisins. Opaque black body is topped by a dense, strong brown head that lasts well and leaves some lacing on the glass. Pleasantly complex flavour starts out sweet and chocolatey with notes of vanilla, biscuit, raisins, berries and roasted malts that blens together quite nicely. Bitterness is pronounced but this is balanced towards the malty sweetness. Interesting interplay of roasted and fruity flavours in the aftertaste. Medium full body is a touch syrupy but never sticky. Moderate carbonation engages the tongue. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Rahman in Jun-08.

Black with mohagany highlights and a decent sized tan head. Aroma is heavy in chocolate with coffee and roasted malts. Taste is of coffee and dark chocolate. Medium body with some alchol warmth.

[Bottle] Pours a deep black with a fine tan head of bubbles. Fairly thick aroma of caramel sweetness, some vanilla, lager yeast, alcohol, and a touch of smokiness. Flavor is very roasty, which is interesting because it was more or less missing in the aroma, some smoke, chocolate, med-rich mouthfeel, a lot of anise/black licorice, and a bitterish, roasty finish.

Bottle, 10%. Dry roasted aroma, not too interesting. Almost totally black colour, small brown head. The flavour is quite sweet, has some American grassy hops. Some sweet liquorice. The alcohol is not very apparent in the flavour, but it helps to balance the sweetness.

Bottle. Light sour roast nose, coffee. Pitch black, golden brown head. Molassis, roast, some plums, coffee roast, light dryness. Medium body, chewy, light sparkly. Chocolate retronasal. Nice.

(bottle, thanks MatSciGuy!) Pours dark brown with a tan head that lingers. Really good aroma of light smoke, berry skin, and roasted malt. The taste is predominately chocolate, light roasted coffee, cherry skin, that rounds out to a very smooth roasted malt and cocoa finish. Medium mouthfeel with smooth carbonation.

C&C 750ml. Silky chocolate woven with the faintest hint of smoke on the nose. Anise, darker fruits and cocoa powder all with a hint of sourness. Pours a dark, opaque brown with a thin film of gray. Lots of black liquorice and anise initially on the tongue. Dark, tannic fruit skin. The smoke on the nose is lost on the tongue. A bit of tart acidity on the finish. Rather lush and silky on the tongue with smooth carbonation. Thanks Levi!
