Cask. Appearance: pitch black. Motor oil, tiny bubbly brown head. Aroma: wow, barrel ! Lots of wood, a little red wine, rich chocolate. Flavour: rich and berry like, thick mouthfeel, really rich, really wood/barrel like, long wood and liquor finish.

2011-10-30. Dark black body with a modest frothy tan head. Rich malty character, vanilla wod notes. 8+ Aroma is similarly rich dark malt and sweet woody overtones, touches of sweet bourbon or wood. 7+ Medium to full bodied palate. Not the most complex but richly delicious. "Barrel Aged Baltic Porter", Cask Days 2011, Toronto

On cask at Cask Days 2011 at Hart House, served in an English pint glass. Pours black with a small rocky tan head. The head mostly remains and leaves a small amount of lace. On the nose, there is a huge oak presence, along with roasty notes of chocolate and coffee, earth and just a touch of hops. The flavour is moderately sweet throughout, with a touch of bitterness entering towards the end. Much of the nose comes through in the body. The finish is long and malty with herbal hops. On the palate, it is full in body with a syrupy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice barrel aged version of a very fine Baltic porter. There was a bit too much oak for my taste, but it was still very tasty. 2011-10-30

Svart i färgen med ljusbrunt skum. Doftar metalliskt med björnbär, svart vinbär, lakrits, alkohol. Smakar lakrits, rostad malt, gummi, koncentrerad saft av svart vinbär. Lĺng alkoholig avslutning med lakrits.

Bottle, shared with Parksy. Inky brown pour, average finely bubbled brown head. Aroma features burnt sugars and dark fruits, yeasty undertones. Molasses, figs, raisins, corky yeast, bitter finish, traces of dry wood. More complex than Alley Kat’s Baltic porter, but not as balanced as the original Trois Mous, and somehow not as rich. Still very good though.

Pours black with a sandy-tan head that lasts all week. Strong, good coffee scent, slight vanilla, toasty. First taste is a kick in the teeth with bittersweet chocolate, cooling to rich coffee, settling on a slightly sharp malty in the end. Would be better if it was a bit more on the bitter side, but then I do love black coffee. I will not hesitate to have again.
