Aroma is boozy, lots of oak tannins, some dark fruits, some tart notes, not very appealing. Taste is very boozy, too sweet, greenish, grapes, oak, coconut. Seriously, I was expecting more of this and it’s a big let down. I have a hard time finishing my glass.... And it’s a small one.

Near pitch black pour, a thumb of mocha head. Burbon, molasses, roasted malt, dry cherry in arona and taste. Barrel well integrated here allowing dark dry fruits to shine through. Medium to full body.

Bottle at RBSG 2014, thanks Buckwheat: Sorry my notes on this are very minimal... Brandy, charred oak, vanilla, fig, over-ripened cherry, almond, roast, bakers chocolate. Smooth yet biting finish. Very Nice.

Bottle purchased in QC, tasted 04/11/2014. Pours black, fizzy tan head fades quickly to a still surface. Aroma is smooth dark roast and chocolate, sweet grapes and brandy, touch of marshmallow, vanilla, burnt caramel, buttery bourbon, subtle booze. Taste is dark chocolate, dark fruit and berries, brandy, cognac-like notes, toasted dark caramel, bourbon. Brandy helps to balance what might have otherwise been a rough bourbon treatment. Thick, chewy body. Really excellent.

My Bottom Line:
This Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter seduces with its vanilla currents on which surf brandy, peppery wood, fieldberry jam and sturdy caramel.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam crowns the brown-edged darkness.
-The finish is laced in alcohol warmth.
-The nose is generous in its barrel aromas.
-Mouthfeel is not obese, but it is definitely thick and rich.
-The flavor profile is magnificent, but the mouthfeel could be tighter imho (the prickly bubbling seems to disturb the malt flavors and sugars a bit).
