2011 Vintage. 750ml bottle. Sweet Jesus, this lives up to the hype! Pours black with a one finger mocha coloured head. Smells so damn good! Molasses, big chocolate and cocoa, caramel, light spearmint, butterscotch sauce, light Butter Rum Lifesavers, and some light dark coffee too. Taste wise, itís sweet, medium bodied with caramel, molasses, alcohol, dates, raisin, and light amaretto that heads into some strong dark roast coffee notes, roasty malts, light ash, and a bitter finish that showcases more dark roast coffee. Iíve never had this fresh out of the bottle, so I donít know if itís the age that is helping it out, but this is flat out awesome. This beer makes the world a better place. Iím sure of it! Drive to Quebec right now, and stock up.

2014 bottle. Pours a near black/caramel with a thin, khaki head. Aroma has nice, sweet notes of roast with some brown sugar, caramel, chocolate, and mild spices. Taste is sweet but balances. Medium roast with dark chocolate, caramel, brown sugar. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Smooth in the mouth with a silky texture. Overall very tasty. Caramel and roast with a smooth texture.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 26 Sep 2014) Dark brown colour with brief, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with dried fruit, raisins, brown sugar and coffee. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, coffee, spices, brown sugar and a generous spicy/roasty bitterness in the finish. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite complex and slightly fruity porter with lots of things going on. Still in good balance. Lovely beer!

This is a great strong Porter. Itís dark malty, silky smoothness is not overshadowed by the high alcohol content. The taste is chocolate, vanilla, coffee and a slight smoky malt. Thereís a sweet sensation on the palate initially which fades to reveal the hops later. Great example.

On tap at the Knick. Rich malt, chocolate, coffee, molasses alcohol vapors. Sweet and musky, a great aroma. Heavy body with medium-light carbonation. Alcohol warming. Dark black opaque with very thin light tan head. Starts and stays sweet, rich with roasted barley, and chocolate. Sweet throughout. Big sweet finish with mild smooth and light bitterness. Sugary lingering after with warming.

Nice dark color with mocha head. Aroma is a bit faint. Just some dark malts and faint coffee and cacao. Taste is very weird. Reminds of a German dunkel but not a very good one. Itís just on the border between sweet and roasty but itís not falling in any category. That doesnít mean itís balanced, itís just... weird. Body is also on the medium-thin side showing itís lager characteristic. I canít say it was bad but I didnít really enjoy it.

draught@Erzbierschof - ruby-black beer with a persistent dark beige foam; roasted aroma of pralines and vanilla; full-bodied and very sweet; light tartness, some bitterness; long residual sweetness and solid notes of vanilla, coffee, milk chocolate and candy sugar - a huge and pleasant dessert beer yet a bit too sweet to be really great
