Unlike typical porters, our Baltic Porter is brewed in the traditional style as a bottom-fermenting lager. The result is a luxuriously round, but robust, black beer with a mild bitterness. A special blend of roasted malts provides this porter with flavors and aromas of chocolate and coffee, and you’ll enjoy it’s subtle hints of cherry-smoked malt.

This has been sitting around for a while since Ughsmash sent me the bottle in a trade. I decided to bring it to share with a few others. It was good enough I might have enjoyed the whole thing alone but why be greedy? Drinking this makes me want to make a trip to the source and try more of their releases.

Aroma / Appearance - Medium chocolate in appearance this had a nice balance to it. Fluid and black it released a combination of ash, smoke, light chocolate, and a sweet smooth base.

Flavor / Palate - Cinnamon, spice, and ash were rounded off by a smoky sweetness. The mouthfeel was simultaneously thick and fluid. The alcohol on this one is masked well and does not really show up until near the final sips. Overall this is a perfect baltic porter and reminds me why I like the style so much.

A deep dark porter with a thick brown head. In aroma, pleasant moka coffee, chocolate, molasses, and dark fruits. In mouth, a smooth porter with a bitter coffee, prunes, oily mouthfeel, dark chocolate, warming alcohol, exceptional porter. L’Autre Oeil edition, probably 2 years old. Tasted Feb. 14, 2010.

750 mL bottle. (2007 vintage). Almost black, with a ring of beige head. The aroma is dominated by roast, but also has a vinuous quality. The flavour is as good or better than anything I’ve tried in this style: roast, chocolate milk, black coffee, berries, and more fruit as it warms. Not as sweet as some other Baltic porters. The alcohol is not apparent. The body is full and creamy. Excellent beer.

Hard to ask for anything more. Except the palate on the fizzy side, this is by all means the perfect beer. Bold chocolate fruity flavour with a coffee note. Deliciously thick. What a brew.

Bomber from a friend during brew session. 2009 GC. Pours with a huge tan head over the deep, black liquid. Inviting caramel, chocolate, and coffee aroma. Lots of sugary molasses with dried fruit flavor. Roasted coffee and chocolate notes.Alcohol barely peeks through. Perfect brew for a cold drizzly day.

Bottle courtesy of my Canadian Secret Santa -- thanks!! Glad to get a second crack at this one. Pours a roasted coffee color with a nice beige head. Killer aroma -- almost like this was barrel aged. Smells and tastes of toasted malt, semi-sweet cocoa, and vanilla. This really was as good as I drunkenly remember it being the first time.

750 ml Bottle 10.02.05 this is the autumn 2009 cuvee. Dark and mounted by a superb tan head It has an excellent lacing. Aroma : Chocolaty, caramel at first than woody and nutty it’s pleasant. Bitterness is enough and help making that malt focused beer digestive. It’s full in body. Where’s the 10%? I can’t perceive any hotness from the alcohol it’s really smooth and easy to drink. An other fine example beer from that great brewery. Keep the GC coming.
