Unlike typical porters, our Baltic Porter is brewed in the traditional style as a bottom-fermenting lager. The result is a luxuriously round, but robust, black beer with a mild bitterness. A special blend of roasted malts provides this porter with flavors and aromas of chocolate and coffee, and you’ll enjoy it’s subtle hints of cherry-smoked malt.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2008 In short: Ultra-dry cacaolized roasted porter. Very good.
How: Bottle 750ml (one bottle on first week of release and another bottle 2 months old)
The look: Black body with a short-lived tan head
In long: When first released the brew felt very roasted and syrupy. A few months later the roastiness level is medium and the beer has dried out a lot. Powdery and dry cacao sensation. Burnt toasts with Nutella. Light fruity notes of prunes and blackberries. Body is round and smooth despite the overall dryness. Notes of charcoal. Mouth drying finish. Lively carbonation. No alcohol presence at all. Very good brew although not quite the sweet/syrupy taste I’ve come to expect from Baltic Porters. Quite original in fact. The one-batch Signature brews from Trois Mousquetaires truly are excellent but when drinking them I’m also sad to think that they might not be brewed again. Because of that they bring me both great pleasure and sadness like watching a beautiful 18th century historical building burn down with the KKK leaders still trapped inside for their annual meeting.

On tap at l’Autre Oeil (Gatineau, Qc). Pours a blacj opaque body with a thin but lasting beige foamy head. Good malty aroma with coffeeish hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Nice, complex taste that darries roasted coffee, black chocolate and brown sugar notes. Ends with a robust bitter/roasty finish. Well done!

750ml bottle brewed for L’Autre Oeil, dark pitch black color, with a tan-colored head, but falls quickly, roasty, black malt nose, with some burnt toast and black coffee bean notes, with a faint vanilla, mochaish-espresso accent, with a black chocolatey a subtle fruity aroma with a full-bodied palate with a sweet fruity, toasty, roasted black malt character, with a dark bitter-chocolatey note, with some vanilla, mocha, burnt coffee bean accents, with a faint plummy, datey, juicy flavor, with warmth mouthfeel, leading towards a warming, fruity, dry roastiness finish.

My bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev. Pours black with a large lasting foamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, egg-shells and some grassy hops. Delicious flavour of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, dark fruit and hops. Dry, roasted finish. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium to full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Holy crap this is great, Les Trois Mousquetaires continue to impress.

750ml bottle from the Festivus Guy, and shared with Mike. Opaque black, with brown head. Spotty lace. Nose of cooling tar, used coffee grounds, a little gassy-ness, and some herbal hops. Flavors of char, chocolate covered coffee beans, a touch of vanilla, and a raisin finish. Pretty thin. Light body. Semi sweet. Not a favorite of the style.

750 mL bottle as "Bistro L’Autre Oeil BP" from Jovi, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep, dark brown-black with a moderate light mocha head. Aroma: An interesting blend of fruit (grapes, berries and cherries), chocolate, black coffee, alcohol, wood, and light funk; a bit of vanilla and caramel, a little smoke; it changes a bit with each sniff. Palate: Thick, slick body and soft carbonation. Flav.: Fruits, wood and alcohol, very little coffee or chocolate initially, a vegetal note, nutty; an interesting contrast to the nose; just a hint of tang, some sweetness, a touch of bitterness; a bit of warming alcohol lingers with a nutty finish.

Interesting, enigmatic and complex. The alcohol is hidden well, perhaps too well. This could be dangerous.

750ml caged and corked bottle and brought to our little tasting by Tom, much thanks!

Nearly opaque with a long lasting beige head and okay lacing. he aroma has notes of plum, prune, pipe tobacco, aromatic and grassy hops, walnut, mineral water, star anise and yes WINTERGREEN (don’t ask me how). I wonderful phenolic nose leads me towards the first taste.

Starts malty and fruity as expected with a nice sharp bitterness in support. Hints of bakers chocolate and walnut before rambling off to the lightly spiced and earthy finish. The mouth feel is sharp and aggressive with a warming finish, nice clean dry finish. I dug this more than Tom it seems, even if it is more aggressive than normally found for the genre. MIKEY LIKEY, try some you.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and Blankboy, Blankboy’s bottle. Pitch black, big bubbly tan head, I’m not sure how it could look any better! Really nice aroma - strong sweet roast. Rich full body. Great taste - rich roast, lots of chocolate, lots of alcohol. Thick silky body. This is dead on style wise - great stuff, well done Trois Mousquetaires!

Bottle (750ml - corked & caged). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, blankboy’s bottle. Basically black pour, large fluffy-creamy beige head. Wonderful dry deep roast aroma, light cream and floral hops, hint of tart fruit. Taste follows, more fruit tartness and increasing alcohol - plus coffee. Fairly light, slick body, light acidity and alcohol - long slick, roasty-tart finish. I’m no style expert, but I’m thinking this is bang-on. Regardless, great stuff.

Courtesy of Glouglouburp. Pours a dark black with slight tan head. Has hints of roasted malts, caramel, vanilla, huge coffee aroma and taste. Finishes with a thick roasted taste on the tongue. Very good brew.
