4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Big bottle as part of a gift pack with 2 glasses and another big bottle (maibock). Pours a heavy dark opaque brown with ruby highlights and a thick sturdy brown head. Sweet stewed fruits, chocolate, vanilla all greet the nose. Flavours are port-like in some aspects with raisins, vanilla, and soft woody character all interplaying with chocolate and hints of coffee. Soft, silky mouthfeel, full-bodied, AWESOME!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Smoke, chocolate, roasted malt. Definite alcohol aftertaste. Great looking pour. Extremely strong and full-bodied beer, perfect example of a baltic porter. Low carbonation, tasted almost flat. Oily feel, oily feel, oily feel, oily feel, oily feel.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2008 Bottle - Thanks Glouglouburp!! - Pour is thick and dark, with a sizeable tan head that dissipates into a small ring....aroma is quite bold, milk chocolate, roasted nuts, molassas and brown sugar, hay and dk fruit, the slightest bit of metal...flavour does not disappoint, rich and thick up front, fudge and coffee, burnt sugar and a little soy, nicely bitter charred wood... complimentary alcohol to cut the richness, finish is more roast with some tart grain that lingers...that was a great surprise...

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle that I coerced nbutler11 into opening when we were both at the end of the night, whereupon we each passed out. Make no mistake, I owe him a bottle. HOWEVER. If my mouth was not playing tricks on me, this was the beer of the night. Nose of almond, coffee, chocolate. Tastes of the same plus a great vanilla tying it all together. Smooth and balanced from start to finish. A world-class beer.

Bottle at Volo 750 ml (2009)
Appearance: dark brown , low carbonation , lighter top. 3+
Nose: brown malts , molasses , ripe dried plum , brown sugar , lightly vineus finishing with alcohol. Well refined. 7+.
Flavor/Palate : full bodied , sweet with brown malts , mild roast with mild bitter hop sides. Light carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. Bit thin for Baltic , good complexity and craftsmanship but also to dry for proper Baltic. I think they missed a point here. Baltic Porter should be superbly crafted yet not as complex as this one. The detail is in making simple great. (Please not score not given to the style.)

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Very enticing aroma, full of fudgy chocolate, smoke, faint espresso, wood and dark roasty malts, very strong overall. Thick black color with a lasting tan head. Flavor features notes of chocolate, raisin, prune, very rich but only semi-sweet, finishing a bit ashy and with fading hints of dark cherry. Palate is smooth and effervescent, body is medium-full. Very nice, gives a highly refined impression. Thanks to Eugene!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 Bottle thanks to Glouglouburp
Dark brown with a large cream head. Ash, chocolate, nut, and licorice in the nose. More licorice and cocoa in the flavor followed by a light milk chocolate finish. Salty body, creamy and with a sticky finish that lasts in heavy milk chocolate. I prefer more malt and less excess in baltic porters, and the licorice note is a particularly unwelcome note here as it clashes with the sweeter, more subdued elements.

Porter Baltique Grande Cuvée Automne 2009 Towering, not-lasting dark amber-beige head over well-carbonated deep sepia beer. Dark chocolate; sweet, but stale coffee; roasted, herbs, too long in the frying pan. Sweet-burnt, clashing but still combining well in the end; burnt caramel and again parsley aroma. Sweetness flaring, probably due to the alcohol. Retronasal bitter coffee and indistinct hops. Very slick, oily, very well-bodied; slight burning MF. Nice, if not unforgettable porter. Grand merci à Altair, Betelgeuze et Fomalhaut
