Unlike typical porters, our Baltic Porter is brewed in the traditional style as a bottom-fermenting lager. The result is a luxuriously round, but robust, black beer with a mild bitterness. A special blend of roasted malts provides this porter with flavors and aromas of chocolate and coffee, and you’ll enjoy it’s subtle hints of cherry-smoked malt.

Porter Baltique Grande Cuvée Automne 2009 Towering, not-lasting dark amber-beige head over well-carbonated deep sepia beer. Dark chocolate; sweet, but stale coffee; roasted, herbs, too long in the frying pan. Sweet-burnt, clashing but still combining well in the end; burnt caramel and again parsley aroma. Sweetness flaring, probably due to the alcohol. Retronasal bitter coffee and indistinct hops. Very slick, oily, very well-bodied; slight burning MF. Nice, if not unforgettable porter. Grand merci à Altair, Betelgeuze et Fomalhaut

750mL bottle pours jet black with a nice British khaki head. Smells wonderful, roasted malt, some toffee. Tastes like a chocolately malt coffee blend. Really well blended together in the aftertaste, completely hiding the alcohol until it starts to burn a little in your throat. Very good beer

Dark black pour with a thick moussey brown head. The nose is loaded with dark toasted malt. A touch of dark chocolate and dried cherries over a kiss of soft vineousness. There is a touch of soft earthy coffee and stewed fruity sweetness. A light salty/cocoaish roastiness with a fairly savoury charry maltiness. Plums and licorice over a sweet but roasty finish. There is a kiss of smokiness on the back as well. Nice.

Bottle at Paul’s place for Kan’s visit. Pours a dark black with a thin tan head. Plum, prune, dark chocolate. Flavors follow the nose, the dark chocolate is excellent. Light booze comes through, but nothing overly distracting, just a gentle warming note. Finishes with some light sweet chocolate. Really tasty.

Corked and caged 750ml bottle from 2008. The dark, dense, mahogany colored body is crowned by a tall, billowing head of khaki foam. Displaying excellent retention, the froth leaves thick sheets of lacing all over the glass. The aroma is of rich malted chocolate, scorched caramel, stewed figs, raisins, and a hefty dose of bready Belgian yeast. There’s definitely a hint of lactose in there, as the chocolate comes off really creamy, almost milky. Flavors follow suit, ultra rich cocoa and caramel showing dark and decadent, with loads of fruity complexity. Figs, dates, and toasted nuts all emerge from the depths, as does a hint of coffee roast. The palate is initially very thick and creamy, showing just a bit of dryness and a slightly tart twang on the finish from the Belgian yeast. This is an Excellent Baltic porter.
