4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Metalchopz (1741) - Cantley, Quebec, - MAR 1, 2012Not sure where I bought this one, but has been in my cellar a while. "Édition Limitée, Automne 2008" written instead of "Grand Cuvée". Pours a real dark colour with little red highlights. The head is beige-brown coloured, decent sized, frothy, has good retention and leaves a bit of lace. The aromas are strong with some plums, raisins, coffee, molasses and hints of chocolate. Beautiful silky smooth and even a little creamy mouthfeel with absolutely no burning. You can really taste the roasted malts in the flavours, giving that burnt smokiness that lingers. A very nice light bitterness holds up, with the coffee and chocolate. Notes of cherries are very well-hidden as well. Quite happy I have held on to this one, but will have to try a more up-to-date version to see if it is as smooth and easy to drink. Would of never known this was a 10% ABV brew if it was not written.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 fletchfighters (814) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 18, 2013
750 ML bottle
Jet black color, two finger head that falls to a thick collar. No lacing but good ABV legs.
Coffee, wood, chocolate, subtle notes of cherry, and earthy bitterness. Nice warming nose.
Sweet tasting. Brown sugar, maple syrup, dark fruits, sweet chocolate. some coffee. Not as earthy as the nose leads to at all. Very smooth tasting with sweetness.
Sweet and slick feel. Bitterness shows back up in the palate. Not very earthy as the sweetness really undercuts it. Still robust but more of a dessert beer.
Nice, but the sweetness is a bit much. Good nightcap

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BreWedge (173) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 10, 2013
750 ml bottle. Pours a near opaque dark brown with a large mocha colored head. Aromas are chalk, coffee, chocolate, ripe berries, and a bit of smoke. Tastes are chocolate, coffee, sweet malts, some smoke and alcohol. Robust on the palate, moderate to heavy carbonation, slightly bitter finish. Not bad but not well suited to my tastes. Masks the 10% abv fairly well.

Aroma: Smelling of burnt bread, some ashes, dark dried fruits, sausages. Appearance: The beer is black with a light brown head, little lacing and rather small curtains. Taste: Intensely sweet start, candid sugar, toast, dates, figs, dark chocolate, a hint of cocoa beans. Palate: Little carbonation, oily and smooth, a huge body. Overall: Really a treat, "probably the best Baltic porter in the world". Note: Bottle 750 ml (thx to Kenneth Malmqvist, bought it in Montreal) Reviewed 2012-07-06.

Bottle from Kensington Wine Market, Calgary. It pours deep brown with a small off-white head. The nose is caramel, cola, cherryade, cocoa, wood and earth. The taste is pretty sweet actually....cola, roasted malt, sweet liquorice, tanginess, cherryade, umami aspect, brown sugar and chocolate. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Hides alcohol well. Not bad, just too sweet really.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 stoutnick (160) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - APR 3, 2013
Beautiful looking - black with tan head. Looks like a stout! Smell is like sweet dark malt with a mild roasty character. Taste is cherry first. So rich. Lots of complexity. And the medium carbonation is perfect for the rich flavours. Palate is a bit clingy. Overall, a brilliant porter.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jackl (2513) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 29, 2013
Bottle @ Bruce’s. Cheers to Paul for sourcing this bad boy. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny off-white head. The aroma’s of rich german chocolate cake, some cinnamon, stewed prune, Dr. Pepper. The taste is much the same. More sweet milk chocolate, prune. Plenty of red fruits, jam, butterscotch. The finish is sickly sweet. Quite sugary. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, a bit too sweet, but decent.

Sweet flavours of chocolate liqueur, roasted malt, soft coffee, bready malt and booze. Too sweet.
Could use higher carbonation.
