1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20 JDBaker11058 (922) - Maryland, USA - OCT 9, 2010
Appearance: butterscotch; small head; no lacing. Aroma: sour funky bananas, some citrus and musty wheat. Taste: blast of alcohol, then sour/rotten fruit hits, then a blast of bitterness, then some dry hardtack/biscuit at the last. Finish: bitter, with some lingering sour fruit and dry crackery wheat. Notes: Rating the 2009, not the 2010. Not very good at all. Definitely reminiscent of a HW, and turned up a notch as the label indicated, but not in a good way. Everything seemed to be sour or just off. I’ll take a regular HW any day, I guess.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 PorterPounder (4612) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - OCT 8, 2010
Tallahassee, Fl -Friday night tasting at Proof. Funky dark orange murky pour with little to no head. Aroma is medicinal with some sweet undertones. Flavor is very artificial with the closest approximation I can some to is Flinstones chewable vitamins. Very medicinal and not enjoyable. Mouthfeel is slightly chalky.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 strowlands8 (170) - Ontario, CANADA - SEP 15, 2010
Lots of alcohol, and citrus fruits with a hint of hops hops hops. A little too boozy but tasty feersure.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 dionysus (1443) - Arizona, USA - SEP 11, 2010
Bottle pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is sweet with wheat, candied orange peel, banana, and vanilla. Flavor falls slightly short but it’s basically there. Overally body is light to moderate, soft, and lightly bitter.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (5153) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 10, 2010
My bottle [750ml] shared with garthicus, tupalev, jerc & mabel. Pours a cloudy orange-amber with some sediment and an average size lasting foamy white head. Aroma of yeast, light hops, lemon, spices and bready malt. Flavour of wheat, yeast, fruit, light hops, bready malt and spices -- not too shabby tasting, I like it. Finish is quite bitter for the style. Medium bodied. Pretty good.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 daknole (7205) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - SEP 5, 2010
Clear dark orange pour. Some alcohol, spices, fruit, banana. Flavor is smooth, sweet, malty, spicy. Really not all that bad.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Muggus69 (885) - Newcastle, NSW, AUSTRALIA - AUG 27, 2010
Draught Moose & Mountie Spectapular, Sydney.
Hazy orange body, big fluffy white foam persists - looks enough like a hefeweizen.
Nose is intense, unripe banana and stonefruits, but mostly peppery phenolics, more than lively spurred on by that substantial abv.
Body is really thick and creamy, high carbonation kicks home the aforementioned abv quite a bit.
Notes of pale malts, tropical fruits on the body with a belting of grassy hop and spicy peppery phenolics...almost to the point where it’s smokey! Finish is very bitter for a hefeweizen.
You’d have to put this somewhere between a weizen and IPA. Very intense and certainly not easy to drink.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jercraigs (6477) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 20, 2010
2010-08-13. Hazy golden orange body with a large foamy white head. Aroma is milder than expected, very light yeast and alcohol, hints at lemon, mild malt. 6+ Flavour is milder than expected. Hoppy, dry grass character, hints of lemon, light bitterness. Muted yeast, hops dominate over the traditional weisse profile. Average plus palate. Decent but I prefer my weisse estery rather than hoppy. Bottle shared by Blankboy
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 probstblueribbon (2379) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 17, 2010
750 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 07AU10.
App.: Very cloudy orange-amber with a large, rocky, off-white froth.
Aroma: A fair hit of tropical fruit esters, tons of yeast and wet bread dough, a bit of alcohol, wheat, grain, bread crust, a kind of mashy note, citrus, earthy coriander, a bit soapy and floral, I don’t love it.
Palate: Medium+ body, soft, silky effervescence.
Flav.: Herbal, floral, citrus hops, the earthy/soapy notes too, wheat, yeast, bread dough, still a bit mashy, more citrus peel, a touch of alcohol, I still don’t love it; off-dry with decent bitterness and a resinous, alcoholic, bread dough finish.
Overkill? I don’t really enjoy this.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 ndon (857) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 15, 2010
tap at taphouse. really enjoyed this one. a comment i heard was that it looked like someone drank it then threw it up into the glass, but to me just looked like cloudy pineapple juice. plenty of citrus flavours and aromas in this one, with a nicely bittered finish. one of the better beers i had that day.
