On tap at bateau de nuit. Hazy copper pour, thin bubbly white head. Strange aroma, really quite hoppy, but old and oxidized as well. Menthol notes, caramel, tropical fruits (pineapple). Taste is boozy, fruity, vanilla/almond sweetness, a bit cloying. Palate is a bit flat, sweet.

750 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a murky copper/orange with large, lasting cream-coloured head. Aroma is piney hops, sweet caramel, brown sugar and both light and dark fruit. Flavour is rich and moderately sweet with solid piney hoppiness, lots of caramel, some brown sugar, a little cherry and pear. Boozy, but without a lot of alcohol heat. Big body. Impressive.

Pale amber pour with a thin white head. The nose is softly sweet and a little bit hoppy. A little bit herbal and slightly honeyish as well. Has a little bit of nice fruit and a touch of soft hoppiness. Has a little bit of honey and toffee notes. Nice brew.

Riktigt gott.

750 mL bottle. Slightly murky brown amber pour, finger of foamy light tan head. Malty aroma, caramel, some brown sugar, fairly sweet for a barely wine. Aroma also had some fruit, cherry. and some resin hop as well. Taste is a similar mix of sweet malt and decent hops. Full body, slightly sticky.

Bottle 750ml. corked @ home.

[ As Les Trois Mousquetaires G.C. Barleywine Americain ].
Clear medium to dark orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate to heavy hoppy, flowers, fruity, dried fruit. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, fruity hops, flowers, alcohol, soft malt, sweet malt, sweet fruit, riped fruit. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20141018]

Bottle. Pours Light amber/caramel colour with a thin off white head. Aroma of caramel malts and a bit of booze. Medium to full bodied. Taste is more of the caramel with a slight bitter tropical fruit bitterness. I think this bottle is probabably past it’s prime; the hops would have given a better balance 6 months ago. Still pretty good.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2015 Bottle from LCBO. Aroma of brown sugar and tropical fruit. Syrupy sweet at the beginning, with tropical fruit and brown sugar, with bitterness creeping up into a bitter aftertaste. Good, but not the best barley wine.

750 mL bottle. Hazy copper-brown with a small but solid beige head. Interesting/unique aroma for a barley wine. Just a touch of brown sugar from the malt. The hops have a weird, sweeet & sour orchard fruit kinda thing going on. Really interesting, hoppy flavour. Not your typical barley wine because of it. But way too malty and boozy to be considered an IIPA. I’m gonna go with tropical fruit as the main hop flavour. Sweetens considerably as it warms.

courtesy of Toni Flükiger - light hazy amber-orange beer with no head retention; aroma of figs and cherry, pretty vinous; full-bodied and hugely sweet, thick; tons of residual sugars and more fruity notes of cherry, dates and figs - the crazy level of sweetness prevents this to be a great beer
