In short: A boozy pale IPA that is mostly an orgy of new-breed fruity hops essence.
How: Bottle 375ml, first and only batch so far, consumed fresh two weeks after the beer release. One last beer before catching a plane.
The look: Muddy peach color body topped by a very small white head.
In long: Nose is loaded with tropical and exotic fruits along with some cat urine. The fruity hop character here is not like bright fresh fruits, it feels a bit dank, resinous, like condensed fruit juice. In mouth the beer feels very thick, again a condensed fruit juice sensation, carbonation is a low side of things. Taste has honeyed bready cereals but they are quickly crushed by the monstrous hopping. After a few sips you taste nothing but the oily sticky hops essence coating the interior of your mouth. A monster dry-hop bomb. This beer is an orgy of new trendy hops (Citra and/or its cousins). Alcohol bite is too strong for my liking, it felt like the abv was even higher than the advertised 8.3%. The release of this beer created quite a buzz here in Quebec, maybe my hopes were too high, it was a tasty treat, but it wasn’t excellent. Truly a hops essence orgy, waiting for the after-taste to go away I reread War and Peace.

Sample, 4-ounce, during the Oktoberfest des québécois, savoured on September 7 2013; eye: apple sauce with a whitish hue, opaque, nice tan head that turns into a nice sheet, good lacing; nose: resinous hops, pine, citrusy, grapefruit, herbal, powerful; mouth: resinous hops, pine, citrusy, grapefruit, astringency, slight caramel, really dry finale with good presence of astringency, full body, quite bitter, slightly sweet, harsh texture; overall: fine FRANÇAIS Échantillon, en fût, 4 onces, lors de l’Oktoberfest des québécois, savourée le 7 septembre 2013; œil : compote de pomme avec une teinte blanchâtre, opaque, belle mousse fauve qui se transforme en une belle couverture, bonne dentelle; nez : houblon résineux, pin, citrique, pamplemousse, herbacée, puissant; bouche : houblon résineux, pin, citrique, pamplemousse, astringence, très léger caramel, finale très sèche en pin avec bonne présence d’astringence, corsée, très amère, très légèrement sucrée, texture rugueuse; en résumé : bien

Hazy blonde with loads of fluffies and a minimal head that fades quickly. Light citrus/tangerine aromas with some bready notes. Not the hop bomb I was expecting considering the hype around this release. Low carbonation, medium bitterness, lots of tangerine flavors. Overall pretty deceiving for what everybody says of it! Tasted twice with consistent note.

Good job!!!

(Rating #5193)

Not a fan of IPA but this one is great. Even with the grapefruit like bitterness, it is refreshing. Share this beer with special friends, while it lasts

A creamy white head settles above the beautiful hazy gold. Regular tiny bubbles climb up looking for air. While very aromatic at this stage 5-6 weeks after the initial release, based on what I hear, I expect it’s already started to lose some of its more volatile compounds to the unforgiving clock. It’s a citrus blast, but one with lots of floral character. Fruit salad resonances remain in the rear seatl, leaving fresher, more acidic lemony and grapefruity notes in the driver’s seat. Rather green, sappy example with surprisingly little of the harsher resinous notes. It’s more floral than resinous and in that sense, it feels softer for all its intensity - a trait I enjoy. I enjoy a bit less the not so subtle alcohol presence despite a totally reasonable ABV for a hop-driven beer just North of 8%. Fresh and clean pale malt base is totally devoted to serving its hop god. A slice of white bread completely owned by its extravagant spread. Toward the 2nd half to finish of the mouth presence, the bitterness starts roaring with more intensity. It is very bitter in the end, but when it comes with matching flavours and aromatics yet with no rough edges like is the case here, bitterness is actually pretty good, ain’t it? I can see why people are falling in love. Bring a winning formula from one of the best brewing regions of the world, make it rare and go ahead with big statements like quadruple dry-hopped and you’ve just ignited the hype machine. Fortunately, it delivers and may very well be the best double IPA ever brewed in Quebec. Let’s bet the competition is going to get tougher in that category over the coming years. Thx for thinking of us Alex & Martin.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2013 375ml bottle. First one courtesy of Glouglouburp. Second one courtesy of Les Trois Mousquetaires. Tropical fruits, mango, peach, along with pine and citrusy aromas. Some horseblanket/cheesy flavours also. Pours golden, hazy, some sediment, with nice frothy white head, some lacing. Thin body for its alcohol potency, some crispy texture, average to high carbonation. Taste is a blend of tropical fruit flavours with some citrus and pine ones, with an underlying sweet profile. Weird aftertaste.Peculiar one.

[Thanks to Glouglouburp]. Bottle. Hazy golden colour with a white head that quickly diminishes. Aroma has notes of resins, tropical fruits and light floral traces. Flavor has notes of citrus, mangoes, grapefruit, orange peel, light tangerine, resins, pine with a good maltose base. Very good integrated the alcohol in a final very fruity with a decent bitterness but no astringent.
