Pours a murky amber with an extremely thin, quickly dissipating white head. A bit of carbonation at first but it too is quickly gone. Aromas are of various fruits like lemon, and banana, but all quite sour. Tastes are equally sour fruits. A bit of wheat and yeast. Interesting in that there is no real malt profile and not really much in the way of hops. Think non-sweetened sour lemonade. A hint of white pepper on the finishing swallow. Overall, I have been developing a taste for sour beers and this one is a very nice entry in the category.

This looks like some weird, cloudy iced tea, smells like lemonade and seawater, and somehow these are all good things? Yup! This beer defies a lot of preconceived notions. Pouring a murky, frothy light brown, it somehow manages to look both appealing and dubious. The nose suggests the former, with this beautiful lemon-lime bouquet, punctuated with a fresh seawater backdrop. The taste is sour lemonade with a bit of breadiness, and a faint bit of spice. There’s no real malt profile per se, but it’s surprisingly sturdy for a 3.8% beer. A very cool, different offering from a solid brewery.

First try of a sour beer. Interesting mouth feel because of the sour characteristics. Strong lemon taste but really good beer overall.

Bottle thanks to Pierre - consumed for Yanick’s 30th. Pours yellow gold white head. Nose/taste of sea salt, sour wheat, sour banana, lactose sourness and lemon. Light bodied. Sea salt and lemon is up front with the lactose sour banana/wheat backbone.

341ml bottle. Cloudy golden body, white small head with minimal retention. Effervescent. Aroma of lactic acid, lemongrass, grains, lime lemonade. Taste of lemon juice and sea water, lactic acid, grains, a touch of herbs and spices. Very flavorful!

Bottle from the LCBO. Hazy straw-gold with a prodigious bright white head. Aroma of lemon and gooseberry, cracked wheat, a bit of salt. Body is soft and crisp, great refresher. Flavour is somehow bright and fusty at the same time, with ripples of fresh lemon balanced by an earthy saltiness and a bit of peppery yeast. Finish is suitably dry and tart, inspiring the swigs and swallows to proceed in a rapid succession. May not be for everyone, but for me, it’s a first rate beer that I’ve been drinking a lot of this summer.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2014 37,5cl bottle courtesy of & grand goseanna! to idiosynkrasie. Very elegant bottle and label design, (over)informative label complete with IBUs, list of ingredients, SRM, suggested glassware, pairings suggestions (pad thai: check) and all. Pours a silky green-inflected wey. Some salt and lacto, lemongrass lemonade in the nose. Quite bodaceous for a 3,8% Gose, again silky and slightly silky with lemonade-injected wey. Salty aftertaste, some coriander seed making an appearance as well. Elegant crossover.

Subtle, but so many layers - salt, tart, savoury, bitter, herbal - crazy stuff but crazy good. Has a lot more Berliner Weiss character than I was expecting with the tartness, the celery, the funkiness, but the distinct saltiness keeps it all together. Nice stuff.

Where and how: LCBO, bottle 355 ml
Aroma gooseberry, white currant with soft oat cover. Gentle citrus with touch of peach.
Appearance :
Top: light minimal short lived.
Base: hazy golden.
Palate : higher carbonation but with fine beading, medium lighter body, light silkiness.
Taste: Just right balance of tartness with malty side. Gentle hop only noted on edges. Play of tartness with its texture is superb.
Other notes lovely.
