Tap at the Lab. Pours a deep dark brown near black with a decent head. Aroma is very sweet- extract-like chocolate essence similar to the youngs double chocolate stout- very sweet- some chocolate malts, light roast and some herbs. Flavor is more chocolate extract and oils, with some licorice and anise, hints of rope earthy, leather, burnt malts, light roasted barley, leafy tobacco, and some tar. Slick fake sweet finish. Eh.

Draft. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Coffee aroma with sweet and roasted malts. The flavor has chocolate, espresso coffee, molasses, roasted malts, and vanilla. Good stuff.

I’m gonna be honest - I rated this at the end of a long night of sampling beers and my notes are, um, a bit of a challenge. I can read the phrase "kinda delicious" and "roasty". But I was pretty enthusiastic about it.

Nitro pour. Black color, heavy cream tan head. Loads of coffee flavor. Nice char flavor, burnt malts. Loads of burnt flavors. Just a touch of dark cocoa nibs in the finish. Very bold flavored. Aroma of roasted barley and coffee.

On nitro tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown with a nitro head. Aroma of sweet malt and chocolate. Flavor of sweet malt and chocolate upfront with a smooth bitter roasty finish. Aite. Nice palate from the nitro. 6/4/7/4/14 [3.5/5]

Nitro at the brewpub. Pours ruby black with dense beige head. The aroma is roasty with some chocolate and nut notes. The flavor is mostly roasted barley with slight hints of chocolate and raisin. It has a silky texture, obviously thanks to the nitro. Finish is clean with a little bit of herbal hops. Not bad.

Very dark in color, little to no transparency. Chocolate and dark sugars abound in the aroma, as well as coffee bean and malts. Flavors are just as the aroma suggests, sweet start with a bitter finish.

Pint at the brewpub. Pours dark, dark brown with very little head. The aroma is pure chocolate. Not much else going on there. The palate is a little light and fizzy for the style. The chocolate in the flavor is not as rich or sweet as the aroma led me to believe. Hints of cola, instant coffee work with the chocolate. An alright beer.
