Doppelganger (1214), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Oct 18, 2006 Gravity, Oxford CAMRA Festival. Very pretty pint--black with just the faintest carmel highlights, big dense tawny head, like a layer of chocolate frosting on chocolate cake. Cold saltwater aroma. A little roast, but surprisingly, it does smell like fresh oysters. Some chocolate notes to round out the aroma. Flavor is really different for a stout. It’s not particularly sweet, but it’s also not thin, which I would usually expect to accompany a beer this dry. A bit of saltiness and a subdued roast. An extra point for being inventive.
