COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our best selling beer, probably owing to its mildness and light body. Golden in color, Bug is a refreshing, Bohemian Pilsner. Our gateway beer to what lies beyond.

The appearance was a clear golden yellow with slow rising carbonation in streams. A small white head appeared and quickly faded. The smell had the grains up front with faded almost muted rice, wheat and hops. The taste was sweet with a good combination of all previously mentioned flavors balanced nicely. The palate was light and crisp leaving a decent balance between wet and dry on the aftertaste and finish. At 5%, I’d say it was pretty sessionable. Overall, this is good for me and decent for the style.

Hazy blonde color with a ring of white lace. Aroma of malt and citrus. Refreshing flavor of malt and citrus. The body is light with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. A good refreshing lager enjoyed on a really hot day.

On tap at the source. Comes to the table a crystal clear straw color with a bubbly wisp of a white head that shows great retention. Aromas of sweet honey like malt with some hints of floral and spicy hops. The flavor continues on the sweet path definitely leaning towards the malty end of the spectrum. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation. The brewpub calls this a bohemian lager but I think thats more marketing than a true to life description of what is in my glass. Its quite sweet and the hops are a bit subdued for the style. Call it an American lager because thats what it is, albeit a little sweet.

Hmm, I would have guessed pale lager as this is hardly a Bohemian pilsener. Unfiltered appearance shows a lightly cloudy lemon pie yellow, with a small, poorly retained white head that creates no lacing.
The nose is predominantly sweet, pils-like malts, rather doughy as well, with a clean yeast, a touch of light sourdough or minerals and minimally apparent, mildly citric (lemon zest and some herbs) hops that remind me of magnum or sterling (though very weakly so). Most of the aroma is dominated by the sweet doughiness.
Flavor is not as sweet as the aroma suggests, with lightly pesky carbonation pulling apart the sticky honey-dough maltiness and inserting vaguely crisp yeast and hops (light herbs and lemons) in between. The texture is unusual, however, in that it is very unfiltered and high in residual sugars. Fortunately, because of the carbonation, it works well enough and provides a soothing, light, malted lager with clean enough flavors and light hops. Rating is more based against a pale lager style and would be significantly lower based against a Bohemian pils.

On tap at the Run of the Mill brewpub with my wife on our last night in Maine. Pours a crystal clear gold with a thin white head. Sweet and grainy. Quite sweet, a lot more than I thought it would be from the nose. Grainy, candy like. Grainy and sweet again into the finish, not much going on, gently bitter on the end.

(Rating #5244)

Tasted as part of a sampler. All brews tasted were good to above average but the only one that stood out was the porter and maybe the strong ale. The rest were fairly average examples of their respective styles without being particularly memorable. Great place overall though.

(Draft @ brewpub) Pours slightly hazy golden/yellow. Pretty much no head (probably by virtue of being served in a chilled glass). Remants of head are off-white and around edge. Aroma is slight, but has some fruitiness, light pine, perhaps even caramel. Mouthfeel is light, slightly watery, fairly prickly and dryish. Tastes lightly fruity, with some light caramel, yeast and bread. Light bitter finish. A bit of a light piney snap at the end. Pretty ho-hum but not terrible (the prickliness was getting to me though). Supposedly their biggest seller, probably because it’s the closest thing they have to an American macro-type.
