clear amber, wispy beige head, rich fruity caramel malt aroma with a fleeting hint of alcohol, rich malt flavor, lots of malty sweetness with a great fruity character, good interplay between the caramel and fruit with te sweetness to tie them together, light bitterness adds balance but does not get in the way,

Pours a pretty golden orange with some brown tinges. A rusty apricot? Modest head of beige on the first serving, but virtually none on the second. Laces indiscriminately. Aromas are sweet and cloying with sticky syrupy peach and gooey caramel. A fair amount of crystalline sugars in the nose. Malty base in the flavor with sickly sweet caramel squares, peach syrup, apricot, and a dollop of pine sap. Sticky. Coating. For all the stickiness involved, the actual body is not as full as quality barleywines. Too thin for me. A drinkable number, but I hope you bring your sweet tooth. 13%? I initially scoffed at the barmaid when she said that. It cannot be detected at all, and frankly after two servings there were no noticeable 13% side effects. Makes me wonder. A decent Liberty beer, possibly the best one in my opinion, but really that’s not too difficult a goal to surpass.

Draught during my NC brew tour. Pours a golden brown hue with no real head. There’s a slightly fruity aroma with a little hint of pears. The flavor is doughy and rough, while much yeast is noticed. The sweetness is very sticky and quickly becomes heavy. The alcohol is hidden well, especially considering the sheer strength of it. Pears and light oaken notes linger on the palate, though the flavor profile seems a bit jumbled.

Blind tasting of 19 BWs. Lightly hazed golden orange color with a small off-white head. Caramel malty aroma was the dominant aspect. The flavor continued the trend with caramel malt and sugary notes. Mild earthy hops showed up for the semi-dry finish. Nice alcoholic warmth but I never would have guessed this was 13%. Light carbonation with a medium body.

Sampled as part of a 19 beer blind barleywine tasting (from a growler, listed as MBSC Barleywine): Pours a clear bright orange with a thin, wispy white head. Sweet light fruity caramely malty nose has a touch of piny hops. Body starts a little thin, but with decent crystal malty sweetness and a mild piny bittersweet finish with some alcoholic warmth.
