500ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Smooth and silky in the mouth and possibly the blackest beer I have ever seen. Goes down a treat.

Mild malty aroma, very thick and dark, creamy with strong roasted coffee and chocolate flavours. A strong flavoured beer well worth trying.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours very dark brown with a small, very firm beige head. Great retention and sticky lacing. Nose shows a heavy dose of hops. Lots of oats and sweet vanilla with typical powdered chocolate. Works well and in unison. Taste is very hoppy with sweet chocolate and vanilla, citrus underneath and light nutty tones. Balanced. In between a Black IPA and an Oatmeal Stout but works for me. Enjoyable beer

Not really a stout, more of a BIPA, but notwithstanding this a reasonably solid beer. Not quite to the same standard as the other liberty range, which is unfortunate. But one worth trying.

Poured black with a single fat finger of beige head which turned into film of espresso froth. My initial thoughts were that the taste was a bit ho-hum, but by the time Iíd hoed and hummed my way through half the bottle, I realised how much I was enjoying this beer. First I thought the palate a little thin, but now I think itís perfect for this beer. The front and middle, ninja-like, slide right on by, then the long, bitter espresso, cocoa and even pear finish brings me back for more.

As far as stouts go, this is a fairly good looking example. Black in appearance with mahogany tints toward the edge of the glass and an enduring mocha coloured head that left good lace down the glass. Typically stoutish roasty chocolate and sawdust aromas and flavours of the the same with a nice biting bitterness. Additional flavours of golden apples and ripe autumnal orchard fruit make for surprising complexity from this pint. Good sessionable flavours, but dangerous looking alcohol content considering how much I wanted another pint but needed to drive home...

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Very roasty bitter, herbal and hoppy, with a full bag of coffee bitterness smothering any sweetness expected from the style. Very dry, unfortunately it doesnít go through as an oatmeal stout. More of that oxymoronic "Black IPA" type-of-beer, which I donít like.

hrm, i didnít get as much out of this one as other seem to. certainly a dry oatmeal stout, with plenty of roasted bitterness, but it seemed a little...plain? i dunno, lacking in the flavour department a little bit, not all that complex. it isnít bad, really.
