At the brewery, dark brown pour, tan head. Lots of chocolatey flavor in the nose and tasty. Might be the best brew of theirs I’ve had.

Dark brown, no head, because of pour, regenerates. Big fruit up front, plum/fig combo, estery, hints of chocolate, dry roast, crystal/caramel malts, no hop character. Flavor has alot going on, roast, chocolate, fruit character even bigger, especially as it warms, again no hop presence. Medium body and mouthfeel. Would call this robust, not baltic, estery, doesn’t have that clean profile of baltic. Still a solid porter.

On tap: The aroma is a nice blend of chocolate, roast, and a touch of fruit. It’s a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thinbring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with chocolate and just a touch of fruit in the background. The finish has a nice light roastiness, coffee, and a hint of vanilla. I would never guess 7%. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. I wouldn’t say this reminds me of a Baltic Porter, but very good regardless.

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2011 Re-rate 05/29/2011. On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head. Aroma is quite earthy and nutty. Still lots of earthy and peanut flavors, but also picking up more cocoa and coffee. Enjoying this more than I did at last summer’s festival.

Original review: On tap at MBGSF 2010. Pours a hazy brown with a tan head. Aroma is light, mainly a dark fruit sensation. Flavor is very earthy, led by peanut butter. Clean finish. 7/3/7/3/15/3.5

MiBG Winter Fest 2010: Basically black with some ruby highlights topped by a creamy beige head. The aroma has notes of raisins, figs, smoky wood, walnuts, and herbal hops. The taste is earthy and meaty with a smoky overtone supported by a lush fruity and malty Baltic character. The finish displays some coffee and nutty notes. The mouth feel is oily and lush, medium-bodied and a bit snappy around the edges. Overall a very good offering I would want again.
