Tons of malt and bitter hop flavor for 5.6% ABV! Slightly cloudy golden color with solid body. Hops basically bitter rather than fruity, floral or herbal.

Tap @ Liberty: Golden-yellow, high clarity with a stark-white, foamy head that quickly recedes to a modest collar. Aroma is very mild; faint grains, light pale malts, damp & musty hops (Noble?), & a mild bit of dry yeast in the back-end. Taste is also quite relaxed; grains, hint of corn, bitter & earthy hops, musk, & a small dusting of citrus & lemon zest in the aftertaste. You can taste the lager yeast if you try, but it doesnít immediately jump out at you... Clean finish, well attenuated. Very easy going, sessionable brew, perhaps a little too bland. No reason to choose this over Anchor Steam.

(from notes) 12 oz bottle into a pint at Basement Burger Bar on February 19. This is something else. The pour is a bright god with hints of darker copper, and no head to be found. The aroma is very plain. There isnít really a dominant odor. The yeastiness and perhaps some maltiness are what would be the aroma. The flavor is definitely strange. It starts out like a good ESB, then moves toward a hoppy, pale ale-style, before finishing mildly sweet, and soapily awkward. First California Common, and Iím not too sold on the style from this beer.

barely pick up a slight yeasty aroma. cloudy yellow color. grassy resin flavor. A step up from a boring lager. finishes with a little bite.

12 ounce bottle thanks to umich03jm. Hazy copper pour with a big white head of foam. The aroma is big sweet and grainy with a touch of cracker influence coming through. The taste is yeasty and sweet. Lighter body with a lot of spritzy carbonation. Very good for the style.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a nice orange color with a big pillowy soft white head. Aroma of stone fruits, mild citrus notes, pleasant yeast and grain notes. Flavor is fruity, dry, nice yeast and pale malt notes. Slightly grainy, yet clean. Medium bodied, finishes on a fruity note. This is fine.

Bottle, pours a hazy light orange. Taste is crisp, light malt with grassy hops and slight yeast. An OK brew to kick back on a hot day.

Slight copper coloured body with a thin, one centimetre tall, just off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, some light earth, a touch of fruit and a small amount of hops. Medium-bodied; Mild malt flavour with caramel definitely noticeable, some toffee and a nuttiness coupled with a touch of light english/german hops. Aftertaste shows a little nutty characteristics, some earthy malt, touches of sweetness followed by a watery flavour. Overall, a decent beer, but a bit too light and showing too much malt/nuts/earth with not enough complexity throughout. Nice to try, but not really worth a trip in a suitcase. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchantís in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$1.99 sampled two days later in Grosse Ile, Michigan on 04-August-2013.

My sister lives over in Plymouth and has told me several times to go with her over to the Liberty Street Brewery and have their Punkin Pie. Well, I didnít see that bottled, but they did have this and their signature beer, Red Glare. Note, this is my first ever "Steam Beer". Appearance: Pours with what I expected to see -- a mostly yellow beer, with a bit of haze at the top. A very thin head with no lacing. Smell: Wow. Really not much here. Then again, I didnít expect much smell OR taste out of a steam beer. Maybe some malts and hops, but itís really rather light. Itís difficult to pick up a distinct aroma here. Taste/feel: With a steam beer and understanding the style, I wasnít expecting much flavor. At the same time, I feel like this is a very mediocre example of the style. The flavor is much too light for the amount of bitterness Iím getting, and itís just not something I find enjoyable. The feel is middle-of-the-road as well. Overall, this just isnít a beer I see myself seeking out again. Itís the definition of an average brew.

bottle. Amber with small head. Light hop and citrus, pretty beer mild overall. Easy to drink, but not overly flavorful.

Pour from a 12 oz bottle. Yellow amber brew with generous white head and good head retention. Aroma of earth, tart fruit, a little resin and citrus hops. Taste is pleasantly sweet at the start of the swallow with earth and bitter hops asserting themselves. Finishes with bitterness offset by some tart fruit that leaves the palate clean. Great balance all around - sweet and bitter, malty but refreshing.
