Tons of malt and bitter hop flavor for 5.6% ABV! Slightly cloudy golden color with solid body. Hops basically bitter rather than fruity, floral or herbal.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 6/18/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of lemon, pear, honey, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, pear, honey, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Moderate herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of honey, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness/carbonation as well. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and creamy/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.6%. Overall this is a nice California common style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity yeast flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Aroma is mold, malt, not good. Appearance is golden amber, white head. Taste is mold, some hop sweetness, but not especially good. Mouthfeel is crisp, medium body, medium carbonation. Overall, without the moldy taste this would be decent.

Pour on tap at the brewery, clear golden pour with thin white head, aroma brought grain, spice, yeast, touch of grass into a bit of earth, slight spicy, yeasty notes into a bit of biscuit. Taste was a mix of biscuit, bread, slight grain, dough into some spice, yeast, touch of grass, slight orange, finishing bitter.

12 oz. bottle from shrubber85- thanks again, Roger! Pours a clear pale gold color with a huge eggshell-colored head that laces the glass. Notes of florals, grass, straw, lemon, bread, herbs, and (fittingly) some damp sweatiness. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a refreshing floral mouthfeel that finishes dry. I NEVER would’ve pegged this as a California Common or steam beer, but it’s a nice beer for whatever it is.
