Pailhead (3449) - Plymouth, USA - APR 27, 2011
UPDATED: APR 28, 2011 On tap: The aroma has lots of cherry (both tart and sweet) mixed with some light chocolate and a touch of coffee. It’s a dark brown with a small beige head that leaves behind some nice rings for lacing. The flavor starts with moderate sour/tart cherry. After my palate adjusts to the tartness, I notice a touch of sweet cherry. The finish has light chocolate, light coffee, and faint roast. Medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, I haven’t been a huge fan of roasty/coffee and sour, but the coffee and roasty flavors aren’t that strong, so they don’t clash with the tartness too much. It may be a porter, but flavor-wise, it’s very much like a dark sour.

5th Annual MBG Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Murky red-brown body, medium beige head. Tart cherry nose with a little roast.. Same in body, with tart cherries that are somewhat subdued by roasted malts and coffee; sharply carbonated.

MiBG Summer Fest 2009, Friday Session: Deep brown hue with a good creamy head. The aroma indeed has notes of tart cherries, chocolate, walnut, toasty bread and a touch of molasses. The taste starts tart and fruity before the sweeter chocolate and crystal malt comes to play. A slightly chalky finish is my only negetive comment about this brew. The mouth feel is smooth and lush and easy to drink which seems to be common place for this brewer. A nice porter that displays the fruity tones yet has the base porter still quite noticeable.

draft at the brewery. Very black, with a rich chocolate malt aroma and tart cherries. No alcohol heat despite its 7%, but it seems like cherry extract was added rather brewed with cherries, based on the intensity. Medium-bodied and smooth for a porter, enjoyable.
