My original records for this beer date back to a batch of home brew in June 2007. It was a beer called IPA Massacre. It was brewed three times under this moniker with minor tweaks along the way. The most significant tweak I made to the recipe was changing to use hops grown in Washington USA. Accordingly, in January 2011 the name was changed to Yakima Scarlet. There were no less than seven iterations of this beer brewed before releasing what you hold in your hands right now. I still donít what style of beer it is, but I can tell you that it is hoppy and it is red.

500ml bottle, Adelaide. Great hop aroma when opened, nice colour. The head quickly fades but does lace well. Big hoppy hit on the back of the palate but very little up front. Tasted better but this is still very good.

Solid hoppy ale. Very resinous and quite bitter. A little sweetness goes well. Loads and loads of grapefruit and citrus. Good without being amazing ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a bit of alright. Hops galore and the malts play an early part, but are soon pushed to the back. Fantastic colour beer, nice to drink. yes.

I love red beers and I love hoppy beers, so naturally I absolutely loved this one! Great aroma when poured, good colour, and just a bit more oomph than the average amber IPA/APA.

This was fantastic! Huge hop presence that is wonderfully balanced by the malt. This is a great beer which ticks all the boxes.

Aroma of lots of american hops with a subtle underlying malty base. Appearance is RED. thin hop tinged head with good lacing. Flavour is malty upfront, quickly dominated by the hops rolling through to a long bitter finish. Soft on the palate with moderate carbonation, very nice mouthfeel. A very good California style red ale, the malt is dominated by the hops and I would like to taste a little more of that glimpse of that promising underlying malt.

Pours a lovely brick red colour and has a generous hoppy nose. On the palate quite soft and the bitterness is tempered by the malts. Have to admit I was a little disappointed by this beer as upfront the flavours are muted and a little thin.

Like the prior reviewer - and the brewer himself, based on what is on the label - this is a hard to pin down beer. Which is one way of saying itís all over the place. Rich deep red, malty, sweet - almost sticky. But lots of bitter grassy hops and lingering aftertaste. But, I donít know, itís maybe trying a bit hard? Itís almost a great beer; almost *many* great beers, but it doesnít quite meld, I think.

It was difficult to know where to pigeonhole this beer as it was dark, but not as dark as a porter. It was strong, but not Imperial. It was hoppy, and too hoppy to be a Scotch Ale. I hope the classification suits. Aromas of the classic Pacific Northwest hops. spruce and citrus, along with long resinous bitterness. The beer was served too cold to truly so it justice, but I would estimate this beer would be felt in the mouth for a good half an hour after the liquid had disappeared.
